Yes because the study of evolution stopped at Darwin. Shit, he didn't even know about genes at the time. And yes, I have read The Origins of Species.

Nope, no need to pray for him. He's a good man, does meals on wheels, is a deacon, habitat for humanity and helps the poor. He truly tries to follow in the teachings of Christ. I admire him for that, but I don't need religion to be moral.

Apparantly even Darwin admitted having no way to prove his theory:

Darwin confessed in his book, Origin of the Species:
"To the question why we do not find rich fossiliferous deposits belonging to these assumed earliest periods prior to the Cambrian system I can give no satisfactory answer … the case at present must remain inexplicable; and may be truly urged as a valid argument against the views here entertained" (p. 309)

Nothing wrong with admitting you don't have all the answers. That's why science pushes forward.

Eta: if we had all the answers, there would be no reason to further inquire about the world around us.

That's the cool part about science. You can't fudge it. It needs to be observed, documented, and tested. It needs to stand up to scrutiny or it is discarded.

Religion on the other hand is simply a *belief* in something that has not a single shred of fact attached to it. One just needs to suspend reality and "believe". They wouldn't ask you to believe if there were any proof.

It's the warm, feel good answer to life for people that take the spaghetti sauce approach to things

I do have to say, this thread has turned out pretty damn good!

My pov is: when it comes to different religions, i enjoy hearing about the different histories behind them and I do find the different stories and myths surrounding them very fascinating.

I guess i would be concidered a christian. I celebrate the major holidays with my family. I was married in a christian church, but i am not baptised nor do I attend church.

I honestly dont believe what is written in the bible nor do I follow "their" rules. I feel the bible was written by man with one goal in mind - and that is MONEY. I wont go into details, but just think about over the past 2000 years how much money has passed through the churches.

I want to believe that there is more then just this, our "physical" life. Im not going to go worship a cross or statues or (probably) fictional people. If there is more, I just hope that the way I have lived my life and helped and treated others will just be enough!

Buuuuut unfortunately my mind cant let me believe in something I cant see or touch or have a rational scientific explanation for.... Fml

Can you find some documentation to support your beliefs ? You seem to be on a google-research roll, so perhaps you can find some proof to back up some of your beliefs.

Lets start with talking snakes. Can you find some documentation of talking snakes (I'll accept any human language here)...?

And your approach is that there is nothing after death, but if there is, that you being a nice guy that tries his best to be a good peep, will get you to where you'd prefer to go - if, of course, there was such a thing.

That's pretty much how I felt for most of my life. Never attended church, or necessarily believed any of the biblical stories. Just didn't pass the sniff test. BUT, I didn't want to completely discard the notion because the thought of dying..... and nothing coming after was a real bummer. There has to be something, right?

I'm afraid that the truth is we become worm food. When you die, it's over. Nothing but memories remain.

I *really* hope I'm wrong about this though!

I'm researching at the behest of you 'scientific types' who implored me to do so......geez....lol.

It turned out to be a treasure trove - I haven't even posted a 10th of all the evolutionists who admit to it's fallacies. :clap:

Well thats a good question? Maybe rephrase it as a non practicing christian?

*** i paid my dues! I made/refurbished and installed stained glass windows for Catholic churches for 7 or 8 years.... That has to count for something, right! Haha
