two ways to change or lower your ppm.

one is get Reverse Osmosis water. it will have a low ppm count.

also try some store bought spring water or distilled water.
check before adding with a ppm meter. as long as it is lower than the res you will start to dilute it.

or you can change your res.

I pump my tap water (ppm 240) though a maytag refrigirator charcoal filter, and it's lowered to 90'ish. I change the filter ever six months, and grow beautiful pleasantly yielding plants...Brussels

I'm not sure of your question. maybe it was answered for you already?

If you mean, you don't wnat the steph of your mix in the raz to rise then. It shouldn't.
Unless it is to high to start with, in which case the plants are drinking more water than they are taking in Nutes which very bad.

I aim to have it the other way, and set my Nute streth so that it slowly goes down.
As for topping up, I top up with plainn water and change the rez once a week.
Other poeple also top up the Nutes and don't change there rezes so offten.

My plant is probably 3 1/2-4 months old. Never flushed until last saturday... So i put nutes inthere and it was real high after it fed... like ppm:1970 . . . I put fresh water in there Clearex . . started at ppm:463 . . and it just keeps rising. . to 960. .

so I took one gallon out and replaced that gallon with pH'd water . . it dropped down to 720 . . I think this method works...
