Wait so are you refusing to travel with me to Japan to attempt to capture and release monkeys, or are you accepting my offer and just stating that you are scared about our trip but will be going?
I'm confused if you are declining or reluctantly but graciously accepting with some reservations.
???????????? Are we going to Japan or not?
If we go and stay in a hotel together i'm not having sex with you so get that out of your mind.

The obsession with some Americans with Japan puzzles me. Especially since the Japanese are obsessed with western culture. I do love sushi and sake and some other foods. But I could never get anime, that stuff just creeps me out. Everyone has big eyes and spiky hair and its just real weird and fruity.

That's because you don't know anime. It comes in many different genres and art styles. Quite often Western productions hire Japanese cinematographers and animators, or copy Japanese animation shot-for-shot, if they can't buy the rights to make a live action remake, they'll just do it sneakily. Japanese film and television isn't as isolated as you think, and there is a distinctive visual language and method of storytelling the west obviously cant get enough of with all the plagiarism. Japan is constantly pushing the boundaries in terms of technology and media as well as surrealism and morality.

It also takes someone to no adopt the habit of spoonfed Western audiences of glossing over everything and not looking past the superficial. You actually have to acknowledge visual cues, connect the dots by yourself and have a think about the symbolism. I guess some japanese film runs more like a screenplay. (not a script)

I have written too many essays about the duality in Japan- the juxtaposition between the ultra conservative and bizarre behavior there, the social and economic shake-up post-war etc.

I love the food, language, customs, art, music and fashion of japan, both modern street style and traditional.

Actually, my geta sandals arrived in the mail from Japan today, to go with the set of embroidered tabi and yukata I play to wear in the summer.

Though it may seem like it's all strange cartoon and cruel game shows, japan is incredibly complex due its socio-political climate over the years and more than just a novelty.

I just wish more anime fans who say they love japan would actually take the time to find out more about the country and language, putting the media they like so much into context. Japan really has a special place in my heart, and I would love to visit when I turn 21 for coming-of-age day or the Sapporo snow festival.

a friend of mine has moved to japan and taken a job as an english teacher. if you are interested in traveling to japan and have a bachelors degree it's pretty easy. he's been there for like 3 years i think and has put up a bunch of youtube videos documenting a lot of different everyday things japan.
