So i live in an apartment building which is all inclusive (utilities paid), and im wondering if using 400W of power for just lights for 18hours a day is a bad idea.
What do you fellow growers think?

How many kWatt's used per day is considered the "safe-zone".

Hmm. Yea. Bad idea. I have no fear about the power company knowing how much electricity i use. They want me to use it so i pay them. A untilities included apt does that because they make MONEY off the electricity you dont use. If you use more than your neighbor, they will know and want to know why.

They may not say, we want to see what appliances you are using and running because your apt costs us more to power. They will say its a routine inspection or maint.

Either way, you dont want to grow in an apt. Should anything happen to your unit, or someone elses that causes your unit to be effected, you are screwed.

400 watts is nothing man.....just try to keep lights off during the day and other things.....look at it this way... most (or a lot)people use 100 watt light bulbs for every day use for their home lighting, that would be like leaving 4 lights on in your apartment ....
so go buy some 13 watt cfls and replace all your standard light bulbs in the house with them, then you will be A-OK with running 400 watts of light for your grow.....good luck....

if you can afford it, buy some appliances like a massive microwave and tose robot things that squeeze the juice out fruits and stuff, a big washing machine, whatever you can. Leave them on all over the counters in the kitchen and just explain the high power consumption that way. Needless to say you shouldn`t use them too much or at all

and captain79 is right, 400w isn`t all too much. Try to be economical with your power consumption, use cfls everywhere in the house and don`t be wasteful, you should be fun.

Weed - helping people relax and saving the planet at the same time lol :bigjoint: it`s a whole new approach to being green :D

I'm in the exact sitch as you. 400 watter in a duplex apartment, utilities covered by my rent. I've had no questions from my LL or any problems at all. It's just we're subject to the odd visit if work needs to be done or something. Just make sure you got a carbon filter and your lights come on at night. That was my first mistake. I got a call from the LL asking if she could come by with the electrical inspector as she had a new insurance company so it needed to be checked. Only had a couple of days to adjust the light cycle for my babies. We renters just gotta be extra stealthy and not grow beyond what is reasonable.
