ISO hash, seeking advice

Hey guys, havent posted in forever. I am seeking knowledge about iso hash.
I shook some 99.9% isopropyl with 6.5 ground coursely for about 30 seconds, then filtered through a coffee filter. Then I poured it on a glass casserole dish that was floating in a pot of water on lowest on the stove. I was surprised it didnt bubble and I walked away for about 10 minutes and I couldnt believe when I came back that there was no liquid left in the dish and it was just some oily drops already. I left it there for another 20 minutes and now I just took a test rip and I am super baked right now but wondering if there is a way I can see if the hash is completely clean. It looks good and when heated it wants to melt to complete liquid and it doesn't pop. Ty for any input

Sounds good DH,

I used to evaporate away the ISO earlier, now I just cover my dish with a cloth and wait till the ISO evaporates off naturally. Just to be sure I would run an evap in a hot air oven, but I wont advise it. If ISO is there you can smell it.

Hope you did an evap test on the ISO alone before you made oil and see if it evaporates completely. Try to run another batch with ISO in the previously used hash material(trim or buds).

Try stirring with a needle when and if you are doing an evap with the fan on and the stove off.

Go get baked and safety first!

Peace!

your gonna burn your face off. with or without an open flame. goodluck genius

Heya Pitz,

What you say has a point. But people always don't see your intentions and will judge your way of stating it. Does it matter? Depends on you man! :D

What you said is absolutely right. It's always better to evap the ISO with a fan blowing in your dish than any water bath. Alcohol fumes are dangerous too. But if it's a large scale operation and in quick need, the risks will always be there.

Cheers mate!

I evap iso on the stove (electric only) or in roaster oven. Always use a double boiler to evap. Im still alive.

also monitor the iso temp. too hot and you will reach the fash point. Ethenol evaporates/boil at 172F

Any time ive made anything with solvents its been a real bitch to handle as well. Maybe you left it in the alcohol too long to make it a little nasty tasting?

Anyway, it turned out amazing. I put the dish in a huge ziplock and put in in the freezer. When I took it out and scraped it, it scraped and looked like the color of kief but a little more amber and as it sat at room temp it got more gooey of a consistency. If I put it on top of a bowl of flowers it seems like some of it drips through the bowl no matter how fat and tightly packed the bowl is. I really need to smoke it a different way

Ty for posting qwizoking. I tried making some a few weeks ago with some 70% and to get rid of the alcohol I put a powerful fan right on it in the garage then after 24 hours it seemed completely dried so i put it in the freezer and i thought it was gonna be good but every time i burn test it and it gets hot it lights up like a sparkler and it seems like a bad idea to try to smoke. I even dissolved it in some water and evaporated it and it still lights like a sparkler. Thats why I tried the heat method this time, also I came opon a bottle of 99.9 and wanted to use some.

Yep, let it dry naturally in a well ventilated area with a little bit of air movement from a fan. Takes about 24hrs for me and comes out a clear golden to amber and flakes like the king shows.

Don't do a lighter test...thc (well all the compounds, terpenes, alcohols, esters etc. Everything contributing to the high and flavor) is flammable

To be sure everything has evaporated you must leave it in thin film on your dish, don't attempt to collect for 3-4 hours after it appears dry..that's all it takes..its much easier to purge fully than some other solvents
The vapor pressure of the iso and thin film of the hash allows it to escape. If you ball or collect you will need vac or heat to finish the purge...you should never heat your hash except at the end and only when altering consistency as if making wax...now it shouldn't be a sparkler that's water, water is the last to evaporate with its higher BP..

Putting in the freezer invites condensation...may be the cause of the sparkling

I use a vapor rig but you can put ashes in a bowl and melt oil into that. Not the cleanest but it soaks up and smokes.
Also pay attention to the color or ash left from the oil. If its white that's quality. If grey, copper, brown or black that's got impurities. Quizzing is also very correct about freezing first. Very important other wise oil will be poor quality and probably green/black in color and get very hard. If you exhale on it and it gets soft and gooey real fast..... killer!

this guys info is really accurate, the highest quality stuff comes from 91-99.9% iso and it is never heated. I like to put a silk screen or a lid on my dishes and let some solar evap, after the liquid is gone, let it sit another day. best if its above 80f out.

edit: gonna do some research into vapor pressure's cause i don't know about that. I just figured it out by leaving it outside and forgetting about it.
