Hey RIU

I have a bag of Schultz moisture soil plus with a premixed 0.08-0.12-0.08 6 months time release ferts

would this be alright for a seed to be planted, or for a seedling with 1 set of leaves?

Time released ferts are not recommened for cannabis let alone seedlings, i would say don't do it.

You will be risking killing the seedling from the fertilizer added to the soil, your best option is to get some non fertilized soil, like Pro Mix or something labeled seedling safe and wait till your plants are decent size before putting them in the soil you bought. That is your best chance for success with what you have.

what if I flush the ferts out?

that may help but then after the fact you will most likey just be left with a low grade peat moss and ground up wood soiless media instead.. Is it really worth it considering a new bag of soil is like 15 bucks for the really good stuff

Hogwash. A lot of successful growers use prenuted soil. Too many people blame their mistakes on the soil and too many people are elitist when it comes to growing. I put freshly germinated seeds into MG seed starting mix and the only issue I had was underwatering.

So you feel that price always equals quality? I disagree. I feel that spending more than needed is a waste. Would Mexican, cornflake, brick weed be better quality if it was three times the price?

No nothing would make mexican dog crap weed any better lol and thats why its cheap as hell but if you spend more money you can purchase some indoor kush for instance which is a higher quality so in that regards price would equal quality. But anyways this plants will grow anywhere heck you could throw a handl full of seeds out the window on the interstate and i bet some of them grow using nothing but broken glass and ciggarette butts for fertilizer and just because it works that doent mean its the best way to do it. So all I saying is you get what you pay for. :blsmoke:

Bake the soil first removes bugs, second if you are in area that is humid you need to add perlite for better drainage, third I would wait till it get a little bigger to put it into that, but I also use MG soil and perlite

I've used MG soil for 6 months, and never had a problem. I never started seeds in it, but all my freshly rooted clones have went straight into it without any burning at all. Just add a bunch of perlite if possible,(10-20%) because that lets the soil dry out alot faster, releasing less nutes, and also keeping to PH up. I also throw in a cup of dolomite lime per bag, to help with PH, plus help with calcium and magnesium levels. I know you're not using MG soil, but it's likely very similar, and i think that adding the extra perlite is the key to making it work well.

Oh yeah....I switched to Fox Farms recently, and will say that it's definitely a better soil.
