Is this set up over kill?

am currently setting up a bedroom into a grow room.

the room is approx 4 meters squared.

I have Just bought an 9x 25Litre auto pot system.

I have up to 8x 600 watt HPS grow lights.

my filtration system is the biggest fan I could buy. Hughe fan and filter with thermostatic controls etc.

I have 9 x green crack autos from fast buds.

my question is, should I have bought some higher yielding auto flower seeds, or will the green crack provide if everything runs smooth.

is it possible to get a high yeild, if so what numbers are we looking at.
Is this set up overkill for autos, should I switch to photo?

many thanks in advance.

As long as lights are kept at a proper distance, and your able to keep heat under control, theres no such thing as "overkill".

What I will say though, in a 12' x 12' (4m²) you can fit a hell of a lot more than 9x autos in that space.

I'd also suggest, fuck autos.. in that space, you should make a small veg chamber that can house a mother, and use her for clones. You can put each clone in a 1gal pot, straight to flower, and grow SOG style. Could grow out 30+ plants on a perpetual basis.

Take 10 clones, 30 days later take 10 more clones, 30 days more, take another 10 clones, 30 days more, you should be harvesting your first round, while taking more clones.. and so on and so on. Some people take clones every 2 weeks, or w.e makes most sense for your needs....

But in that size room, only having 9 small plants is a waste. And growing from seed every time, and autos non the less (not that they're bad, just not practical large scale), is more costly, slower start to finish, not able to take clones, and varying phenotypes mean you never know what your plants needs/yield will be from seed to seed.

If you are gonna setup to grow real weed ditch the beginner autos and grow some real weed. You will get WAY better yields, WAY better potency and best of all you can clone!

Thanks for your reply. I know we could fit more pots, but to start with we want a good space to walk around the plants, want to LST semester scrog each plant individually. Do you think the 25 litre pots are too big for autos? I bought every thing for a period grow but due to technical issues, only have the auto flower seeds.

peace

We did plan and are all set up to grow photo periods, due to an error on my friends part, we only have the auto seeds.

I don't think there's such a thing as overkill, I say go big or go home, lol.
I just wondered if these auto flowers had a “genetic potential” so no matter how much extra you give then, they can’t yeild over a certain amount.
Is there no truth in that thought?

You are correct. Best you can do is give them everything they need right @ the start, but yes they are "limited" on what they will produce.

I haven't ran that strain, but with the autos I have ran, a QP per plant is pretty easy to get.

Ok cool thanks.. what kind of wattage were you using to get that weight? Thanks

25litres per auto is likely more than they need, as they'll never be able to get to a size where they are actually utilizing all that space.

Roughly half that space is the most they will need. And tall pots are better than wide pots, as the roots of an auto flower typically grow most of their root structure downward, where a photo has a lot more spread in its root structure.

Also, be careful with training... You dont want to do anything that will slow growth down on an auto. As long as you arent cutting anything off aside from a few fans or super cropping though, you should be fine

600 until the last month then bumped to 1200w in a 4x4.
Talk about overkill... :)

I run 2.6kW with photos in a 4x8 now. Still haven't learned my lesson yet I guess ;)

and what kind of yeilds are you getting on average?

thanks

7-8oz per Skywalker OG with a 2'x2' footprint. First grow this setup so could be better. Only my second grow and first was the autos in soil.
It’s a brand new room I’m building now, I have only done small grows years ago.

what watt lights did youhave over that footprint?

Unless I am misunderstanding you I would say your lights are way over kill. About half that number should be enough for 4 square meters

For HPS the rule of thumb is 50 watts per square feet. So you have 43 square feet 43 X 50 = 2150 Watts. You have 3600 watts but your first post says you have 4800 watts. Also that is a small bedroom, are you sure that you measured correctly? I think 4 or 5 lights would make you more than happy. That is still a lot of heat to deal with. No sense putting in more light if you're too hot.
