Is this seedling dead? It’s been like that almost 2 days, the stem is black too. Does it need to be tossed

Start some new seeds

At least be very careful and pry the seed shell off and see what’s underneath. Maybe that colour orange back is purple. Maybe it’s green. Play with it a little. Let us know.

A helmet head might grow out but you will be further ahead starting over.

Hopefully it was a bag seed or some other cheap seed. I would be really upset if I paid twenty dollars for one seed and have that happen

Next time plant it a bit deeper so it sheds its shell. Otherwise when you see that shell carefully remove it asap.

Ain’t dead till it’s DEAD. Ive had purple seedlings like that before. Soak the shell for a couple days and try to take it off with tweezers. If it’s worth planting, it’s worth trying to save. It hasn’t damped off or rotted yet.
