Is this light Sufficient for Vegg?

Hi all,

I recently purchased the light listed in the link above with its reflector that comes with it.

It is placed in a 5 ft tall, 1 1/2 foot deep, and 4 foot wide cabinet. Is this sufficient lighting to vegg 10 or so plants quickly enough to get them to be about 18 to 24 inches tall in about 4-6 weeks from seed?

I will be growing G13 NLxSkunk Fem, Greenhouse Seeds Himalayan Gold Fem, and Barney's Farm Blue Cheese Fem.

I may end up vegging them in the cab for 2-3 weeks and then switch them to my flower room and vegg for another 2-3 weeks under my 2x1000 watt hps. What do you all think?

However, I would rather be able to sufficently vegg in the cab so I can have a perpetual harvest. I purchased this light instead of an MH because I was afraid of heat being an issue in the cab.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

yea it should work as i have seen people use cfl's and they work but of course a stronger light would mean a bigger yield

Im only using this light for vegging. I will be using 2x1000 watt hps for flowering, so I should be able to get a very good yield. Just hope this light works well enough to get 10-16 babies in a 4 foot wide,1 1/2 foot deep, and 5 foot tall cabinet about 18 to 28 inches tall in a matter of 4-6 weeks from seed.

It should be possible. Once you put them under the 1000w HPS, they will shoot up fast. If you veg with it for a week, they will grow a foot before you flip, as long as they are in good condition. As for the florescent, I use T8 shop lights for cloning and for them to start out and they grow fast in that too, once I have transplanted them in pots. In 2 weeks under floro's, the little babies are probably 8-12" if I am not topping. Although, I always top or fim them and they are usually about 6-10", without any problem, with multiple shoots. You have a nice set up, they should grow well, and you should get a nice harvest with what you have.

Thanks for your reply. I am hoping for the best. Do you think I should fim or top my plants? With having 16 plants in a 8ftx8ftx8ft flowering room i figured i would have a decent amount of space for them and there would be no need to top or fem.. would i benefit by topping or feming them in this size room with my 2x1000 watters

I bought 3 of them on ebay for US$30 each. NEW as well.
Theyr'e OK but you will need more than 1 for what you have planned.
When they get too big start using 1 of the 1000 watters.
I had 3 of them in a 5 x 2 1/2 foot closet but wasn't too impressed,
so I switched to a 6ooW MH and my plants really took off.
Good luck.:peace:

Yeah it is worth FIMing or topping. Might have to veg an extra few days with those 1000W's to get it to the height you want but it is definetly worth it. Here is some pics of a FIMed plant. I just took the pics, day 29 of flowering.

What I don't understand with some growers is that if you have both those CFLs and the HPSes for flowering, why don't you use both the CFLs and the HPSs in vegging?

I mean, unless you're on a continious loop, you will get more yield.

Or is it about electricity?

I think i will def top them. How early in veg do you recommend this? and do you have any instruction on how to do this as successful as possible. Thanks for all of your help

Thanks for your reply. How are you controlling heat in your closet with a 600 watt hps? I agree, i think i may need to upgrade

The cfl is in a vegging cab and the 2x1000 watt hps will be in a 8ftx8ftx8ft flowering room. I am trying to set up a perpetual harvest. That is the only reason why.

I know i can just move my babies to the flower room and vegg them for a few more weeks before switching the timer over, but i am trying to work all the kinks out of my cabinet and see if it will be able to work successfully for my perpetual in the future.

But i agree, after a week or two more in the cab, i will switch the plants over into my flowering room once it is set up to veg them for the final 2 or 3 weeks and then switch them into flower. I hope I have a large harvest especially if use the topping technique that demon suggested :joint:
