Is there enough time to self autos?

The misses decided to surprise me with seeds. Two among them are autos. One is a northern lights #5, the other a pineapple punch. I also won a contest by castle seeds last year and received 4 cheese autos from dinafem.

Now, I've had plenty of success using STS to both make crosses and self regular seeds. However, I have never even grown out a auto flower.

What I'm wondering is if there is enough time during a single plants life cycle to force a branch or two and still manage to pollinate the rest of the same plant to get viable healthy seed stock .

I know an auto flowers automatically, but can you just let them go past being ripe to allow seeds to ripen if need be, or will the plant just die?

Sorry for my ignorance on autos but as I said I've got zero real world experience in that area

As long as you have fresh white pistils being made, you should be fine to make more seeds. Contrary to popular belief, auto's don't just up and die all of a sudden as if they were on a timer. They automatically flower within a certain time period, but can live for far longer than their recommended harvest date. Being healthy for over 100 days is very doable, especially if you keep feeding them. The bud quality (in terms of thc) might start to degrade earlier than that, but the plant definitely doesn't just die after a certain number of days. What matters more is how long that individual strain/pheno is going to produce viable white pistils.

I concur, yes, the flowering cycle on many autos isn't much shorter if any than a photo triggered flower...they just do it automatically after a short veg period.

At least from what experienced with Northern Lights x Big Bud and also on Think Different... I wonder if people in the carribean have given much thought to autos since they have such a short flowering cycle down there?

EverythingsHazy is right on the money. I had a reversed plant outdoors wilt from the excessive heat and so I cut him/her down to collect the pollen. I had not sprayed with CS for at least 2 weeks. I noticed when I looked her over that she had started producing more new female flowers on the lower branches. I could have kicked myself for not just watering her more and letting her grow out. The point is, she was already well past 90 days and her sister had matured and been chopped. Those new flowers could have gone another 4 to 6 weeks.and made me some more seeds.
