Is THC Illegal?Confused

Of course I know here in the usa that marijuana is not legal in most states... but what makes it illegal? is THC illegal? for instance if i sold food products containing THC is that illegal?

yes, THC in any form is illegal.
I was busted as a teen with a cannabis lollypop(had no thc)
smiply because it said "hemp" candy.
I went to court and it got tossed out.
