Okay so i have 3 plants all flowering, they are all at the end of their 2nd week of flowering, the only problem is that i live in Michigan, and the weather here is getting bad, its starting to get very cold and has been rainy (perfect weather for a purple plant :) ) , but other than that im worried that my plant wont survive..i was wondering if anyone had any tips or expierience with growing in cold weather? will it be okay to leave the plant out overnight? or what should i do?

okay for sure, but do you guys know anything about growing in cold temps...and like at whats the lowest temp a plant can survive? and if its a good idea to leave them out through the night?

My plants are in the ground and have endured several frosts now, plus all sorts of rain, cold and wind, and they are fine. One night it went under 30 for awhile and they had frost on the buds, but recovered fine. Are your plants potted? If you can bring them into a shed or garage over night do I would do it.

Yeah okay so the weather for the next week says it should be in the 50's and sunny which is perfect and lows of 40-30 degrees at night, and yes my plants are potted...could having them either potted or put into the ground have affects on weither or not they make it through the cold and frost? or does it not matter?

In the ground the roots are better insulated from the cold so yes in the ground is better for cold temps. If you can't take your plants inside at night at least wrap the roots up with a blanket or something and find a big piece of plastic to cover your plants at night. I'm in Indiana not too far from you and I've got 3 plants that are still flowering. They were in the ground but I transplanted them back to pots. They are now in an outdoor greenhouse that has a space heater in it. The greenhouse is made of a tarp material so it barely keeps the temps from falling too low. I'd say it's about 58 degrees in there at night and about 70 during the day if the sun is out. My plants are loving in there too. I just hope they finish up before it gets too cold, I'm spending a fortune on electricity running that space heater 24/7.

yeah for sure i know what you mean.....I can bring my plants inside at night, and thats what i have been doing, but i rather keep them outside, but thats not going to work unless i do what you said, but i might not go through covering my babies and just bring them inside.

Nope.... I don't think ur going to make it.... but if you do....there won't be much yield.

If your temp. highs are already JUST in the 50's, ur plant IF it grows much, will do it in slow motion. Weed needs at least 50 degrees for 5 hours to stay ON....but barely. The warmer it is, the FASTER and FULLER the grow. Of course there are limits as to top temp/optimum growing, just like a bottom of 50+ degrees.

I'm in this same type of situation with some VERY slow flowering sativas. You nailed it right on the head this cold is just making it even slower, I already know they wont finish I'm just waiting to pull the plug pretty much. oh well, they were free seeds I got with my purchase. still woulda been nice tho. :leaf::leaf:just in case anyone in the northern climate is wondering do not plant Power Skunk from g-13 labs seed co. *they will not finish. lol!:peace:

Here's some pics of what I'm working with. That's my guard kitty in the back. Her name is Tuesday. She acts more like a dog than a cat, she follows me or my son everywhere we walk in the neighborhood, even into the woods.
I need to get a thermometer because I'm not sure how warm my very drafty greenhouse is. It seems pretty warm when I'm standing next to the heater but I just don't know, the plants seem to be growing again, they had stopped it seemed after I transplanted them into pots from the ground after the weather kept getting shittier. I still see some white hairs coming off the buds and the trichs look like they are cloudy but I haven't checked with a microscope yet.
I have to go out of town in about a week, I think I'm gonna chop them right before I go because I'd be scared the circuit will blow or the power will go out for something and my plants will freeze, that is unless the weather gets better, which I highly doubt. I know I'm done trying to grow sativas in the midwest.

I might just convert my grow to indoors when it is toooo tooo cold to continue....the weather for the next week is supposed to be 50+ and sunny, and then in the low 40's at night, so im going to try another week outdoors, and Delta your cat tuesday is sick haha, i wish my cat was a guard cat like that, and now i see what you mean by greenhouse...do you have alot of acres in indiana to be able to do that? or do you not really need that much land to build a greenhouse like that? and DUDE DONT GIVE UP YOUR GROW...i feel like its possible to make it still....if the weather does get to bad i will move my babies inside.

cold weather is going to make your plant purple anyhow so its not about the strain and i understand the lake effect because im right across the lake from you bro lol

Don't have a bunch of acres. I next to a ditch and gasline easement and then another ditch so I have one neighbor who is a nice old lady, her husband just died of cancer. Even if she knew what I was doing I don't think she'd really care. She is an avid gardener, mostly I talk with her about gardening so she either thinks I just garden vegetables or she is wise to the whole scene and knows why I take such an interest in gardening. I can't be for sure. Anyways I'm good on this location. I have had a nice 3 seasons here and now we are moving so I will have to find a new place to grow.

My cfl medi growbox is in a unheated greenhouse (don't ask me why). Cold weather is setting in and I was wondering if I could put in one of those propagation heating pads to keep my plants warm during the time the lights are off.

The roots will be warm, but the plant itself will be affected by the cold. A propagation mat is not a big heat output device and is meant for liner containers(shallow), nothing bigger. It can't heat the soil of a 1 or 3 gallon pot.

If ur greenhouse isn't too big...I'd slip a portable heater in there instead.
