Is Gay Marriage Really That Big Deal?

No man seriously...I dont have problems but Im not gonna act like Im totally politically correct either. I have gay family, I joke with him like fairy and ass pirate, but in the end its all in good fun. One of my best friends is transexual. I just wanna know why cant we keep some things as they are in this country. everyone needs there own special interest group or organization to show to everyone else how special they are. Maybe I just dont want them getting married becus Im a dick...Maybe im subconsciously in the closet...maybe I feel like gays cant provide the earth with the next generation of doctors, lawyers and scientists, who Knows? I think felons who are non violent should be allowed to vote but it aint gonna happen. And If gay marriage was to ever be globally accepted, I would applaud them for the victory, but still not agree with it.

Well I really don't think you are a dick, and I seriously doubt that you are subconsciosly in the closet.

Remember that gays are only about 3-5% of the population. There is no good reason or proof that they are unable to raise a well adjusted child who goes on to become a laywer, scientist, doctor, artist, businessperson, carpenter, or whatever.

Gays are represented as "great minds" just like str8s.

What would happen if gays got married? Nothing. Except there would be an increase in happy families.

When I say " the next gen" I mean breeding, having babies, knocking each other up. Yeah you can do it with a test tube or adoption but thats beside the point. I always put it more like this.

If a comet was heading for earth and you could only take say 20,000 people (expl. 5,000 men, 5,000 women, 7,000 children, 3,000 great minds male or female) to the new home planet or the underground bunker...What purpose would a homosexual serve us, as a species of only 13,000 fertile adults with a gestation period of 9 months, In a harsh environment where the estimated life span of an adult is now only 55 years...besides a great decorating sense, lol. Maybe thats my problem, I have a doomsday complex and I think our species is gonna diee out becus everyone is gay. Hhmmmmm.....

Wow I just skimmed through this thread but it's pretty clear most people have never met any gay people before. Just like what the John Wayne films did for the indians you guys are doing for the gay community. Spreading falsehoods and generalizations.

Marriage was instituted to ensure the inheritance rights of the children. It was expanded to include the economic welfare of the wife- or ex wife - and to grant certain tax benefits since child raising is very expensive and it is historically in the interest of the state that its citizens have children. There are some unions that are childless to be sure but it is damn sure when two men marry. To grant them the tax and inheritance and other issues such as survivor benefits from social security costs society at large and is sans progeny. I think that is the only real objection. As for sexual orientation that is as immaterial as what religion you are. Its your business.
