Is Columbian Gold a Pure Sativa ?

I am a relatively young smoker (24 and been into it for the better part of a decade) and i have sampled my share of high quality buds. Where im from (the great land of australia) and the circles i have kicked around in, commercial weed is quite high quality. A tad chemmy and unflushed but nonetheless, the potency, varying highs/flavours and knock you on your arse ability are still there. Dont get me wrong, I will always prefer my own, especially the HEAVILY sativa dominant skunk#11 im smokin on at the moment, which was flushed for 4 weeks because she just kept goin and goin and goin longer than expected.

My question is, to the old school boys on here who seem to be well versed in the "modern era" strains, What comes closest??? What strain is goin around at the moment (through seedbanks) that you have found to be most reminiscent of that 60's/70's/jungle/vietnam type shit. Because myself, and im sure many other gen Y's on here would loooove to have something close to that experience. Cheers!

I smoked more potent bud in the late 60's and the 70's than I find from professional breeders today. What they gave us was variety, a different high/stone combination than could be found in land-race strains. But they did not give us super-strains. That is all marketing hooey that sadly MANY have swallowed hook line and sinker.

The puppy tokers were not even swimming around in their old man's nutsack yet when I was toking pot my brother in law brought home from Vietnam in 1969. They have no conception of what strains like that were like. They never experienced 'the jungle kind.' They have read how pot of the olden days was weak compared to modern strains, but they have no idea that the testing method was changed from how pot was tested for THC in the olden days, or how if modern strains were tested in the same way they would not test out higher than the strain from the past. They want to believe they are smoking the most potent pot ever. Because of that they seldom, if ever, believe it when they are told that the high grade strains of the past (not all strains, just the high grade strains) were killer and would send them home crying to their mammas if they smoked some.

I've seen hardened party commandos climb into a bed after taking two or three hits of 'the jungle kind' because they were to high. Just days before my brother in law married my sister I was at his apartment and I did two hits of what he brought home from Vietnam and I thought I was in my house sitting on my couch watching my TV and petting my dog. It wasn't until I got up and walked into a closet thinking it was my bathroom that I realized where I was, and that I had been calling his dog by my dog's name.

At times I feel very lucky that I was able to experience the Golden Era of Cannabis. And at times I feel sad for anyone who was not lucky enough to experience the incredible mind-bending highs that were the norm for some people in that era.
I've heard from a lot of Viet Nam vets that most of the weed over there was laced with opium or some such shit. But Yeah I remember some seriously potent shit in the 80's that you just don't see anymore. Uncompressed Seedless Mexican, Jamaican, Old school Humbolt bud. There was this one strain that was called "The 66" it was the 66th seed of an f1 cross between land race Afghani and some Panama Red. The 66 was the most potent dankest trichomiest bud I ever seen. The feds got the mother.

Classic!

Its been 30 plus yrs. since I've tried any MJ waiting on my card now. But I can affirm Columbian was the sweetest tasting herb that could be had in the 70s. And definately 1 toke was enough. By the way we Gold and Red fantastic
But that was 30 yrs ago.

Just for the record, the legendary MTF (Matanuska Thunder Fuck) was (and IS) a pure sativa, grown here in Alaska. Want some of this? You'd better have a sister that gives good BJ's or something cause this stuff is pricey and hard to find. The test to see if it's the real deal is to throw it against the way and if it sticks, it's real. I had some of this in 2008 and after 3 tokes I was seeing God.

was in vietnam last year, got some vietnamese "shwag" a few time, lol.

meaning it was, stems, leaves witha few tiny buds thrown in. (dude that got me it, wasnt really a smoker and this was not a good district for marijuana, was apparantly, mostly hooker territory)

but anywho.. no couchlock at all and i needed about 3-4 tokes more than i usually smoke to get nicely high (kinda reminiscent of speed, that weed, in a marijuana way (skyhigh, some visual stuff) you stop smoking this stuff 2 hours before bed and then just wait for it to wear off to fall comfortably asleep)

to put this into perspective, we talking 3-4 more tokes than usual (i usually need 2-3 smokes before im happy (from pretty strong weed)

mixed with tobacco and mostly leaves with more stem thrown in than flowers ;) so yeah,,, you surprisingly pretty nice tasting too.

course like i said, this was not really a good place for getting marijuana, the imported canadian (hybrid) was much better manicured (and of course all bud)

but i gotta tell ya, i only bought the canadian, when i couldnt get the vietnamese buds.

so.. you can just imagine how weed from a proper mj place in vietnam would be like.. (there are much better places over there, this was like i said a hooker district in northernvietnam (cops are particularily fierce towards drugtrade there and focus on marijuana (though they just beat the shit out of people and throw foreigners out of the country (usually))

lol, id want to talk to some knowledgable folks though about where to go, or check the net, i hear the south and middle of vn are more hospitable to mj.

but its a fantastically beautiful place to visit and very cheap. very nice place for a toke and a walk (with certain precautions) (looks like out of a fairy tale, the scenery in many places with names like the valley of the dragon and stuff with myths and legends to match)

I haven't found anything that was like the Thai stick or Columbian Gold of old. The Columbians of today are concentrating on Cocaine. Thailand is still around but the DEA, (which wasn't in existence in the 70's), is making it difficult for drugs to arrive in America. Of course, on the other hand, our bodies were young, innocent, and not used to the decades of pot that we have endured by today. Perhaps the legality of the situation of those days, (20 years in prison for a joint), the youngness of our bodies, and the stressfulness of the Vietnam War made the high "seem" that much more potent. ALL I DO KNOW IS THAT I CANNOT GET AS HIGH TODAY AS I DID THEN!!!

hi homies. I enjoy how you call it columbian gold. I'm no Christopher Columbus, he is dead, but I am living in COLOMBIA and I have already seen here CG and scooped up some buds for free from a friend of a friend. Lots of indigenous people here, Colombia doesn't kill them off like the silly americans :D hahhaha first world... They make DMT tea that was so fucking cool I would never want to eat LSD again. No matter what anyone tells you, this pure SAT is unlike any other mixed up plant. I never got visuals before I tried this rusty bud. I too would love to have some seeds, but instead I have some 60 seeds of a white rhino plant, so says my cultivator/dealer. ON the other hand, Ahhhhh, nothing like QPs of world class buds from the third world (i like wrhino a lot) for just 230 dollars YUMMMMMMMM!

Columbia? which country is that? The only thing correct from your post is that mexico and panama are real countries. colombian gold lives. Have you ever been 10,000 feet up to visit coca producing lands? Colombian gold lives. The real indians don't "crossbreed" their shit because there are no cup competitions. The plant remains the same. Drop your cushy office job and fam for a few weeks and come on down to the Indian Hut!

I have an idea. I'm going to score a 1/2 O this weekend of colombian gold, here in colombia, and take some pictures for RIU. I've only encountered it once in the USA, in Philly. the home of the "wet" . Wet is a dangerous drug :P don't do it. maybe neurotoxic shit

Hey from Canada.
So here is my Columbian Gold story. Its not flashy, no international travel, more of a love story if you will.
Grew my first plant out in my greenhouse last summer, mid June I visited a friend living in his tiny house in Shaunigan lake on vancouver island. He had this little plant in his window. Looking sad. And kinda yellow.
With no plan for this little CG plant he aquired from another grower she came home with me. Potted up out in the greenhouse, it quickly caught up to my only other plant. A sativa of unknown genetics a fellow grower calls Superman "pine smell" cuz you know he says " Makes you feel like you could jump up and fight crime" haha ironic because the man in this love story turns out to be Mr Columbian Gold. stealthily pulling out his balls while this unsuspecting new grower admires the strech. Wait is that pollen...
So yeah, the birds and the bee's and big stinky trees.
Enter "Columbian Superman" which is currently inside my 4x4 next to 2 GSC under a 1k.

Lighter colored, peppery. In the picture of the scrog it is on the right. We will see what happens.

Cheers from the Island

And yes i did smoke that seedy dank. Because without failure you can't appreciate success. And its all i had.

I got 3 Colombian Gold landrace seeds from the Attitude. They were VERY hardy and grew quickly. I took 5 clones and then about 50 clones of some of those. The first 9 plants did pretty well outdoors; I have two left and I'm chopping them tomorrow. I kept I think 46 clones for the next grow and now they're close to 4' tall and just going into flower. I had to buy a new timer and I didn't notice the little slider on top "Timer / ON', and I had it in the ON position, so while I thought they were only getting 12 hours of light, they were still getting 24. So now some of the fuckers are growing up into the lights. I tried to lollipop them but they kinda got out of control on me and when I open the door to the grow room all I hear is "Welcome to The Jungle". Here are the latest pix. I'm growing them with the Kratky method, no air, no pump, just water and nutes (Dutch Master Advanced). Any possible solutions to salvage this runaway train are welcome.
