Hi all,

So im going to 2-3 in a bathroom closet just to start to make sure everything will go well and then will be starting to clone a few and keep the cycle going. I was interested in this light. 125watt

Hydrofarm Fluorescent Grow Light System - Model HYFFLCO125D at Sears.com

Now would this be beneficial to me with 3 plants. How many lumins does this give off or do i need to worry about it. I have read the cfl tutorial and others and tried to suck in a much as I can into my brain. Anything else I need to consider?

^^^ what he said. you could go start to finish with fluorescent lights but hid lights i.e. hps and mh work much better, provide a lot more lumens, and have a better spectrum of light for each individual growth cycle. i got a 600W HPS for about $250 and a 1000W MH light for a lil over $200 from bghydro.com . if i were you i would spend the extra dough and get a mh and an hps or just at least the hps. you could even get a 250W hps light that will put out around 29,000 lumens for 20 bucks more than the fluorescent light you're looking at. just food for thought.

i bought most of my shit from bghydro.com and must say their customer service is second to none. my orders were shipped the same day and took less than a week to get to the east coast from cali. also my mh bulb was defective and they sent me a replacement on priority shipping the same day no questions asked.

What about 2, are there different temps for flowering? Is HPS a better way to go from veg to flower?
Hps lights are arguably the best kind of light for flowering because of their color range in the light spectrum. they put out more of a red/orange color that is better than the blue/clear of mh and fluoros. that said you could get an hps light and get a separate bulb for vegging that has more of the blue spectrum in it and then swap bulbs for flowering.

Just an overpriced CFL with a nice reflector. Go get yourself a HPS or a switchable MH/HPS and never look back.

Need is a strong word, you can use a Hps from start to finish if you want to [i have with good results] but the general concencus is that MH is best for veg and Hps for flower.

yea an hps light could be used start to finish. if you get one of the switchable ballasts you would need two different bulbs to get both spectrums of light

okay, well now I have a general idea of what I want. If I can get some good yield from an hps light start to finish I should be fine. Thanks to all that helped me out with these concerns. Goood luck to all in growing and happy smoking:weed:

Talking of lights, when it says 1000w, what is that, that the light uses a 1000w or power every .....second? Hour? day :) I dunno I iz teh nub!

1000w is the amount of light it produces i think,
i use a 400w hps from start to finish,,don't change my bulb at all and it comes out fine.

Now this was written to someone else so dont get confused. But this should help for what your trying to do bro.

a high pressure sodium bulb, Atleast a 150 watt bulb. Now you need this because when its in its flowering cycle. That type of light puts out an amber color light which is perfect for producing large bulky buds. Trust me the type of lighting you have right now is not enough. You need the right light spectrum. Another thing you need to know is that all HID lights (high pressure sodium, Metal hallide, Ect.) must operate in a specific fixture which contains something called a ballast. A ballast is needed even if its something as small as a 50 watt HPS bulb, Because it ignites the bulb, Remember that absolutely no HID light bulb will work in ANY normal household light socket. It must have a ballast. You should go to lowes or home depot, They sell fixtures that go up to 150watts (which you should get) For under 100 dollars. The 150w fixture is your best bet, because it is cheaper than the 100w fixture remember that. The 150watt fixture costs $52. Now if your only growing one plant, you can pull it off with a 70W fixture. Thats what i have, along with 2 large cfls, A 120W Dual florescent light fixture, an extra florescent, Plus the 70w hps bulb. And i grow one plant with that. And it is quite effective. If i were you though id go with the 150 watt fixture, because its more power for a better deal. The only reason i didnt get it is cuz they were out of stock. Trust me you need it though......GET IT.

Here is some info on fertilizers. get one like 10-30-15, or 15-30-15. Just make sure the nitrogen level is lower than the phosperous level ( which is K on the N-P-K ), for flowering you also want a pretty good ammounty of potassium. this is all for specifically budding, low nitrogen and high phospherous and potassium. Basically start cutting off the nitrogen level, and keep raising the phospherous and potassium levels. Not by too much though. Thats just what they need for flowering. Get a fan to blow on the plant while the lights are on you want the temp in the 65-80 degree range, no lower than 60 but no higher than 80. Also if you use a fan the stem on your plant will become much thicker and stronger.
