Inspecting Trichomes?

Hi.

So I am 4 weeks into switching to 12/12 and got three girls grown from bag seeds. They still have got some time to go until harvest; however, I was hoping someone can explain what type of microscope or loop I will need to inspect the trichomes?

Also if any dwc growers or Foxfarm nute users can share some knowledge on what is going on with my plant please check my thread out. I appreciate all inputs: https://www.rollitup.org/dwc-bubbleponics/642424-deficiency-could-i-doing-better-13.html

I use a 20x jewelers' loupe myself or some use a 30x pocket microscope. You can always use a higher magnification but I can see all I need to at 20x.

No pics so no idea about your plants. I've used FF Cha Ching, Beastie Bloomz and Open Sesame but eventually switched to Advanced Nutrients Growers' Packs, a lot more expensive but more complete and superior results in my hydro.

Really, I was reading around the forums and I saw people saying 60x was the min needed. So I started looking into usb ones on amazon under $25 that are 100-200x but I don't know if they will work and seem flimsy. Has anyone tried these microscopes?

I have 40X lobe but mostly use my camera.
It's a better pocket camera no phone cam.
Then upload the pix into the computer and look at them under zoom.

Does the 40x allow you to see the cloudiness clearly?
Oh yes.
The bigger the x number also makes it more difficult to focus unless things are very still and you have good vision.
I think 20x is supposed to be the best for trics. Not sure anymore.
I got a 30 and 40x from ebay for less than $10 but still rely on my camera and 20" monitor.

Thank you for all the responses! I am still confused, so from what I have been reading 20-40x is not enough magnification to see. Also the higher the magnification the harder it becomes to focus. I don't need a usb one per say but being able to take pictures is helpful when you need something verified on the forum. I am really looking for a inexpensive scope that is easy enough to use to inspect the cloudiness.

Would this radioshack microscope 60-100x work? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2179604

Has anyone tried it before?

that works good I got one but you have to be right against the plant to see it. I cut a little bit of leaf off and put it on a slide and use microscope

the plant has to be still if you use the hand held one. If you got ppl to help its good if not its still decent

100x is the normal size hand held microscope with led light for checking the trichomes although 200x is amazing you can see the colour of the trichomes clear as day with 100x
you can walk in to a maplins store and buy one for £8. or you can buy a usb digital microscope from ebay 25x to 500x adjustable magnification cheap and then produce pictures on your pc.

I ended up going with the radioshack one. I figured I give it a shot since it was inexpensive and available locally. If it doesn't suffice I shall return it and order the one from ebay/amazon.

So it worked but like it was mentioned before it is very hard to keep focused without removing a bud (which I had to unfortunately) placing on a stable surface then placing the scope on top...All that to find out that they are still clear. sigh

Sorry, came into this thread late. Here's the type of shot I get from my USB microscope.

I'm using this type of scope.

The stand really makes a big difference in being able to get a good focus. I also got the 2mp scope.
