Inline fan

Just got a 4 inch inline fan.
Its really heavy though, like twice the weight of my bulb and socket, and i dont think my grow tent will support its weight :\
is it alright to have the fan on the outside mounted on a wall or other flat surface sucking out the tent through a duct and carbon filter? or does it absolutely need to be inside the tent?

Thx in advance for the help

If your tent is constructed of steel it should have no problem supporting a fan, even if it is twice the weight of your light (which I’m assuming isn’t more than 15lbs at most)? I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to have it inside, but it is a lot more productive that way, hope this helps

It isssss made out of steel, with plastic corner pieces...
but the bars that hold the chain that suspends the light just kinda sit on top of the frame...
Its really sketchy but i guess i might be able to figure something out
So like this is the birds eye view of my tent, the lower case i's showing where the two beams literally just sit on the frame, they arent bolted...

The only problems you may have is:
1. air leaks... just make sure the ducts and joints are properly sealed.
2. noise .. a running fan is noisy
if those aren't a factor, you are good to go.

Dude to be quite honest... its not even a huge deal except for one day when people come to paint my deck. And the fact that im running a booster right now thats leaving my tent in the 30 Degree celsius range

How long is the duct? How many bends? Are you using a carbon filter?
Those inline booster fans severely lack the power when you add these things to them.
A true centrifugal fan works so much better, especially one with a speed controller knob.

I used to use a booster fan for grows, when I didn't care about smell, and my exhaust was short and 1 bend.. it worked well. My current grow has an exhaust about 10 feet long, 2 bends, and i am using a filter. my temps were much too high. I ordered a real inline fan, and with the knob it is set at medium-low, which is keeping the temps ideal.
