Inline fan options for efficiency and noise reduction

I am just wondering about fan options for the most efficiency and also for keeping things quiet. Currently I have a Systemair 5" RVK which is mounted inside of a wooden box, the ducting is acoustic and the box is also filled with expanding foam - It runs pretty silent but I need more airflow.. I grow in a 80x80x200cm tent with a 400w HPS, with the outside room kept cool with an AC unit. This does help massively, but I am still getting 30/31ºC temps with the lights on due to more airflow needed.

The difference in noise going up to a bigger fan, say 8" is a pretty big difference... I am just wondering what the best options are with purchasing inline fans nowadays? as it´s better to get a head start before adding my own noise reduction. The Systemair RVK E2-L comes in at 42dB and pushing 720 m3/hour, this seems to be one of the best options considering the price. Or is there better fans out there which aren't too expensive? I am in Europe so it can be limited on brands without additional shipping and tax costs.

Cheers :bigjoint:

Shop for a fan that is built with ball bearings. They run a little quieter and a lot longer - I've used
one for 5 years now - sounds like the day I bought it. Hooked up to a day/night thermostate to 9 inch
exhaust - Had to put sound and light trap on outside of house - Sucker runs like a champ!

Are you usingusing a speed controller, get the variac on amazon, I am also switching to the vortex s series fan, they are fully speed controllable
Yo Tim. Cheers for the input. I was using a fan controller but found that it generated more noise through the infamous humming sound lol I will need a new controller soon, could you tell me the advantages of using the Variac in real world use? In the end I went for a Centro 150mm from my local grow shop. Pushes 500m3 and runs at around 40-43 db. I have got 152mm acoustic ducting and going to start work on a insulated box out of 1/2" MDF for it to go in sometime next week.

Thanks for the tip bud. I have gone out a brought a fan prior to reading this :( But shall have a check if it is a ball bearings model and bear in mind for the future.

The variac controller does not hum, plus it has more, speed control than the speedster type that is huge advantages

I can. A cheap fan controller starts and stops power to the fan x amount of times per second. That is the reason for the humm plus its hard on the motor.

The variac controls the voltage to the fan. It is constant and easier on the motor.

I got the 3 amp variac off amazon.

They sound amazing, really well priced also however, the issue I have is I am in Spain, so unless I can find a shop who sells them it will be quite pricey for me to get hold of one - especially weighing in at 6 pounds  :(
