Hey chaps.

First off, sorry for going over ground time and time again. I hope it’s not too annoying but I guess this is Newbie Central! So I hope I don’t get too much stick.

Seeds germinated, saw some white root poking through the seed so planted them both into some indoor compost soil. One seed has been in the soil for 3 days and the other has been there for 2 days. However, as of yet I’ve not seen it shoot above the soil yet. Someone mentioned that they should shoot up within 1-2 days. I’ve keep them inside and under a 1500lumens CFL (another bulb to arrive). The temperature is normal room temperature and humidity is regular room humidity. I’ve put quite a lot of water in the soil and kept them very moist.

I left them this morning (GMT time zone) on my window ledge as it’s going to be very sunny.

I also poked around a bit early this morning and uncovered some soil to expose the seed and it does appear that the root has definitely got bigger. It just seems that it’s growing very slowly. Is this because of the relatively low temps and low humidity? My soil isn’t very compact, it’s quite loose.

I was thinking about sticking something on top of the pot to speed up the growth and maybe trap in some humidity but not sure if I should or not. I’m not bothered about it taking a bit of time, I just don’t want to rot my seeds or let them die.

The strain is Amnesia Lemon (feminised) if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Give them time, and definitely don't over water them.

I would let the soil dry a little before watering. I know the temptation is hard to resist to dig in there and see what is going on. But do not do this.

Too much water can kill them and soil temperature can slow the progress.

Thanks very much.

I keep hearing conflictions about watering. Some say that seedlings need to be very wet and getting dry will kill them and others say they need to dry out and water can kill them?

Yeah I kinda felt bad after digging a bit of soil off the top, I just wanted to see if there was any progress but I tried my hardest not to disturb them. It's a very warm day today and so I've stuck them in the greenhouse to build up a bit of humidity, evaporate some of the water in the soil and give them more heat.

When I feel the water lying in the bottom of the pan it is quite cold. Should it be luke warm? :-?

You only need to keep the top layer of soil moist for seeds just planted.

There should be no water lying in that pan. The soil needs to breath also. Remove the water from there.

Cut the bottom out of a milk jug and remove the cap. Place this over the seedlings to raise the RH. They will pop much faster. The more you water the less the roots have to work to find it.

Awesome - thanks. I just hope I don't kill them! I will be incredibly annoyed.

You mention increasing the humidity for the seeds to sprout above the surface - would you need to sustain this humidity when the plant is vegetating and is growing with leaves?

I've looked at it seems the plant can grow in most humidity conditions - is this correct? I assume it will just grow slower if it's not ideal.

Patience! The seed will sprout and it'll be poking throught the soil in no time. Like keico said, don't go diggin around to see whats happening. Let it do its thing and it will reward you with a little green treasure. The seeds are individual just like people. Most practices hold true, but there are always exceptions to the rules. Just give it some time and she'll poke her little head out of the soil. If a week goes by and no germination, you may want to try a couple of more seeds.

I found this way to work the best for me. I take a coule of seeds and put them in a glass of distilled or RO water. Keep checking them to see when they crack, looks like a popcorn kearnal before it pops, onece you see the crack, I place the seeds in a moist paper towel until I see a tiny taproot start to form. Be very careful and place the germinating seed in your medium. Thats it, if the seeds are in good condition, this plan is almost full-proof.

Hey, yeah I already germinated both the seeds. One germinated 1 day earlier. Once the 'tap root' was showing I planted them (Friday + Saturday). I'm just wondering why they were taking 2-3 days to show as I read someone on here mention they should show above ground in 24 hours.

I guess it depends on the temps/humidity/water as well as the individual seed.

I hope my digging didn't upset them in some way.

When I planted the seed in the medium I tried to drop them in 'tail' first but they kinda landed sideways. Oh well I assume they will find their bearings.

This is how I do it. I have a germinating heat pad that I place under my tray. My tray holds 70 rapid rooter plugs. I just put the seeds in the plugs about 1/4 inch way down. I can still see the seed so I'm able to turn it around and place it deeper when I see the tap root. I use a propagation dome so I can keep the RH around 90% I get seeds to show 4 leaves in about 4 days with this route. You can get a starter set at home depot that does 6 or 10 plants at a time comes with the dome and everything. about 10 bucks I think.

Check out my grow I have pics of the dome and my tray. Link in sig

Yeah rapid rooters are good for this, I used em this year and I love em, you can get it well started with em than plant the block, im also 20 for 20 in germination using these, some depends on the seed yes, but I will assume the rapid rooters helped some too.

Right guys, I started my germination process exactly one week ago today. They were showing taproots by Friday/Saturday when I planted them. It’s a good 4-5 days since I planted them in soil and I’m yet to see it sprout yet. Should I start to be a little worried yet or should I just continue to stay patient?

I’ve been putting them in the greenhouse for the last 3 days every day where it is fairly humid. I have been making sure I’m putting warm water on top of the soil every day to stop it from completely drying out from the warmth of the greenhouse. In the evening I’m taking them inside and keeping them in my room under a CFL until about 10.30pm when the light goes out.

As per recommendation I have also placed half a 1.5L bottle over the top of the cups to create a humidity dome over them.

Anything I’m missing out doing please let me know. I will be much happier when I see the stem shoot above the ground, but as I say, no sign of it yet.

I only need to add that once the seed sprouts then remove the plastic cover

Will do mate. Every morning and evening I’ve been hoping that I’ll see a little bit of green sprout out of the ground. I put a little extra soil on top a couple of days or so ago because when I put a bit of water on one of them it washed away some soil to expose the seed, so I just put some fresh soil on top so it sat a bit deeper.

I am really hoping I’ll see something tonight haha.

How goes everything so far guys? Make sure to keep the soil warm around 75F if possible. Make sure the soil is wet but not soaked. The soil heat will dry the soil out a bit but I use a mister to spray water on the seeds. I spray about 3 times a day and spray the dome or bottle to help add humidity inside.

I just let the plant do it's thing, goodluck
Any quick tips on trying to increase the temperature of the soil? I’d say my room temperature is probably quite cool and the CFL’s don’t really provide much, if any heat to the soil. It’s been just over a week now since they started their ‘grow’ so something must be slowing them down.

Best way to increase the temps of soil, would possibly to use high wattage CFL.

Yes CFL do generate heat. I was using the 26 watt CFL daylights. But just be careful. With enough of them the temps can climb above what you are comfortable with.
