Hello,

I've been medicated, forever. And I have experienced a stupid amount of side effects. I am now weening off, and going to only use MMJ.

But, if you're like me, and you like to write stuff down - please feel free to post your medications/ side effects.

I'll start:

Fluoxotine (60 mg/ day).
- it was a long time ago, and I can't quite remember the side effects. Except that I drank a lot back then, and the side effects were probably hidden by hang-overs and black outs.

Celexa (20 mg/ day - weeeeening off - down to 10/day)
- dry mouth, excessive thirst, vomiting, the shits, gagging, dry-heaving, insomnia, sleep disruption, rashes, burst blood vessels in my eyes, high blood pressure, vertigo, fever, chills, shaking/ teeth chattering, restlessness, irritability, and so on....haha

How the fuck can DOCTORS be ok with prescribing this shit to a TEENAGER, yet they won't sign a piece of paper for me so I can get some pot?

Weird world we live in...

My side effects in my almost 20 years experience using Marijuana:
- sleepyness (sometimes, and usually appreciated)
- I say random things, that are sometimes funny, and sometimes offend people
- I laugh, a lot

Nope, nothing bad - hahahaha

every pharmaceutical medication made in the entire world ...CAN KILL YOU
and a person dies from side effects every 19 minutes!

WEED.......DOES NOT!
No shit! I was at the dentist the other day, and for funs they took my blood pressure. 160/100!!! Jesus fuck, I'm only 32 - and before the Celexa it was like 110/70 or something.

Am I the only "sharer" on here....hahaha....I'm ok with that. I do like to share...

Done all the standard meds: morphine, demoral, dilauidid, t1-4, methadone, Valium, flexeril, vioxx, topamax, flexeril, naproxen, baclofen, and more I can't think of at the moment. Every single one of these drugs had some untoward side effect. I only use mari now and life is much better.

Took opiates in the past, not as medication though..anyways thats a whole other story, but i'm clean now and that was a long time ago i'm proud to say. however, aches and pains. vomiting, shits, loss of sleep, definite loss of appetite, weight loss, dizziness..you name it. the shit they push on the public is unacceptable.

I had the pleasure of taking various pain killers and muscle relaxants over the years. T3's, T4's, Zanaflex, Valium, Hydrocodone, few others I can't remember. Oh and I almost forgot the Botox injections every 8 weeks. Basically turned me into a zombie, all lethragic, unable to focus, generally shitty feeling. Not to mention what untold damage to my kidneys and liver. I don't even take aspirin anymore.

I self-medicated with alcohol for years until a seizure just about killed me. The upside is I haven't had a drink since 2008, but it was the start of my hell of prescription drug side effects.
Anti-seizure pills (can't remember the name)-- Upset stomach, disturbed sleep
Celexa -- chills, shaking, restless, increased suicide thoughts, no appetite, no sex drive
Wellbutrin-- same as Celexa, night sweats so bad I destroyed a brand new matress
Zoloft(sp)-- Very strange thoughts and dreams, scared me so much I stopped after a month or so
T-3,T-4, Emtec,Morphine 10-- I don't do well on pain killers, I go kinda zombie-ish lol
I am going on three years of MMJ exclusively and have not seen a doctor in that period. The only doc I 'see' is my Skype doc!

Fuk that Celaxa kiddo , hopefully you aren't taking it anymore , it's the worst anti depressant ive ever taken .

Ive shared much info here at RIU about my multi decade adventure with opiates & related narcotics but i dont mind sharing more, about 25 or 30 yrs ago i was in a work related explosion where the blast concussion threw me 50 ft , the concussive force & impact broke my back , tore up most my discs & crushed some vertebrae as well , i was also left with 3rd degree burns on 12 % of my body as well as 2 small areas of 4th degree burn , 4th degree is imediate amputation so i lost a finger & some leg meat & had massive areas of 2nd degree burns & 2nd degree hurts the worst of all burns , i broke some bones too as well as some internal shit so ive been in pain ever since , countless surgeries & nothing fixes the nerve damage so im pretty well fuked .

Everything ive taken or still take is neuro surgeon prescribed thru pain management , ive been on Dilaudid , Morphine , Fentynal , Oxycontin , Oxycodone , Staydol NS & IV ( Heaviest sht ive ever taken )Darvon compound , Percodan , Vicoden , Soma , Methadone , Hydromorphone , Tussinex , Nucynta , Valium , Zanax , Neurontin , Lyrica & thats off the top of my head & i know im missing a bunch more but you get the idea , ill start off with the worse side effects .

Stadol NS ( Butoproponal Tartanate ) Now this is some wild shit here , side effects are severe rage syndrome & equally severe depression , you'll rip somebody's head off on stadol or eat a bullet , several times i ended up in the bath tub or out back with my 45 cal in my mouth from the depression , the rage you feel is unexplainable & i served up several beatings while snorting that shit , i got into a road rage incident on I-75 in Clarkston Mich where i busted a guy's window , drug him out the car & stomped his face with my work boot within 100 yards of a massive billboard pic of Jesus titled " Are you on the right road " , i was so pissed i bent the steering wheel in my truck while driving away from the scene ,another time i was in Detroit eating lunch at a burger stand when i saw 2 crackheads running away from my truck with some expensive tools , i got in my truck & ran one of them down to an abandoned flop house with about 15 pcs of shit out front , i grabbed a masons hammer from my truck & caught that fuker on the 3rd floor trying to hide behind a pile of drywall on the floor , i hit him in the shoulder with the hammers blunt end then once more directly in his breast plate , picked up the transit he had of mine & left his ass there to die , hopefully he didnt & thats bothered me for 20 yrs , you'll kill people on stadol NS ,

Neurontin is a doozey for depression too , after about a month on it extremely vivid nightmares & suicidal thoughts all the time .

Lyrica is the same type nerve agent as Neurontin but i dont get nightmares or suicidal thoughts , what i do get is loss of equalibrim where im off balance & when i use the 200mg one's it fuk's up my balance so bad in my inner ear i get sea sick & the worlds spinning , i have to lay flat on the floor & hold on for dear life for about an hour .

Dilaudid makes me feel tweaked , cant sit still & cant keep a thought straight with 100 things going on in my head at once .

Fentynal patches fuk up my sleep no matter the mg .

Thats about the worse immeadite side effects but with all opiates the side effects from long term use are a nightmare & can lead to death not related to od'ing , you get enlarged prostate which causes you to piss every 15 minutes 24 hrs a day , enlarged prostate will fuk your sleep up so bad you begin to contemplate suicide , it takes on a life of like your being tortured from sleep depravation , imagine going to sleep & having somebody wake you up every half hour all night & each time making you do 20 sit up's then saying go back to sleep , knowing their gonna wake you up again all night long , urinating with an enlarged prostate isnt easy & it requires using stomache muscles to force the urine out , a simple piss can take 5 to 10 minutes of strenous stomache muscle use , along with urination problems enlarged prostate can lead to total irrectile dysfunction where nothing on earth will get you hard , i spent nearly a year like that & am only now getting back to half ass normal errection thanks to low dose daily Cialis therapy & urination is only slightly better with me waking up once an hour to urinate .

Again with long term opiate use comes hardening of the bowels where you get constipated continuously , you feel ungodly bloated & the intense pressure being put on the intestine leaves you on the toilet in agony for hours , the feces back up can put pressure on the heart , think Elvis Presley & how he died grunting on the toilet , thankfully thru change of diet & a 2 yr 90% reduction in my Oxycontin use & the total stopping of my use of morphine , oxycodone & nucynta for break thru pain has my bowels started functioning nearly normal .

I'd give anything to be opiate free but that isnt a realistic expectation unless i opt to undergo surgery to sever my spinal nerve bundle leaving me cripple from the waist down , ive met 2 men who couldnt live with the pain anymore & flew to India to have the surgery , here in the states doctors cant kill living body parts other than to save a life so many go to india for the procedure .

That ought to be enough side effects to make anybody think twice before taking PK's to get high .

Thanks a lot for sharing!!! Every single pharmaceutical drug out there has about a million listed side effects, it's hard to sift through them all.

I like my information to come from word of mouth. Or word of post?

I like information from people....

THANKS!!!!

Have you tried Ketamine infussions? Is a spinal cord stimulator an option?

In my youth i was aroung alot of guy's strung out on kat after recieving it for battle wounds in the vietnam war , most turned into sycho zombies after long term use , im not a kat expert so i dont know if the street kat of the 70's was the same quality as the ketamine used by medics in nam but i saw side effects from the k junkies that make heroin look like baby food , paranoia & dilusions was pretty bad with those cats & IMO most likely why so many nam vets had such vivid flashbacks & went berzerk , but to answer your question about k therapy it's never been offered to me or even been discussed as an option , i will ask my neuro surgeon & pain mngmt doctor about it when i get my epidural & nerve block shots in 2 weeks .

I recieved a stimulator implant after using a personal Tens unit that gave me very brief relaxation of the pain & it wasnt any more help vs the external Tens unit , my main pain source isnt from broken back , ruptured/herniated discs or vertibre but from scar tissue on nerves & permanent inguries to the dural sac , the dural inguries cant be fixed via surgery but can naturally heal over time & god willing mine will continue to heal more , according to big wig neuro doc mine is continuing to heal on it's own & is the reason im not still taking 5 80 mg oxycontin & 3 200 mg nucynta every day , right now im down to taking 2 80 mg oxy's per day for the past few months .

I had high hopes that the stimulator unfortunately it wasnt a great help .

Thanks again for sharing.
My son has RSD aka CRPS. He started with the epidurals, first one gave him 4 hours of complete relief. Next time it was an hour, next time no relief.

We started ketamine infusions about a year ago. In Ontario you can have one infusion every 2 months. In the States they have 5 day infusion sessions available, we are so far behind the rest of the world with K treatments. It is a real trippy procedure, paranoia and lots of very freaky hallucinations. They give him anti hallucinating drugs, but he still freaks. It is so scary seeing him on K infusions. He recovers in a few hours, and every time he explains it like it would be what you imagine dying to feel like. He tolerates the side effects, because he thinks it helps.
When you take a lot of different drugs and treatments it`s hard to distinguish what is doing what.
We know for sure 100% how much the medical marijuana is helping.

Just finished a trial run with a stimulator, and had a 40% reduction in pain. On a waiting list for a permanent one.

Wishing you all the best panhead.

Hey Leaf,

I didn't know what CRPS was, I had to look it up. No one should have to live with pain like that, I wish you and your son nothing but the best in your search for relief.

Thank you DL...you know it's really weird because two of the first patients I helped had RSD. It's like I got a friggin education on this shitty disease before my son had his accident. I don't know if it's irony or karma or...

The world works in mysterious ways sometimes, there's no doubt about that. Your son is lucky to have such a smart/educated/dedicated/badass dad :)

it's crazy to hear why people use cannabis and how it can change lives..everything from opiate addiction and depression like me in the past, to chronic pain like leaffan and everything in between. you are an inspiration and a very strong person @leaffan .

its nice to have some inspiration and drive to keep me on my journey to helping change lives.

Got caught up on the same 'bus'. I can recall being 16 and having a prescription bottle of 60 /10 mg valium. Ate them like candy, thankfully I didn't end up dead. Then the universe directed me to self-medicating via alcohol and pot, which in the mid 70's the latter was a toss-up regarding quality. Fast forward to the early 90's alcohol no longer has the desired effects therefore major life style change. Crashed and burned large..... then became a 'guinea pig' for a number of physicians as each different physician would prescribe a "new wonder drug" which I would take until the side effects manifested and I'd stop. I eventually got worn down and agreed to give paxil a try. started it in 2001, tried stopping a few times, well meaning docs would just switch me to a different ssri, I believe I've tried them all, even the old tricyclics. My body finally revolted (2011) and I developed serotonin syndrome which left me no alternative but quitting cold turkey and quiet the torture via the newer benzodiazepines. This is when I found a return to using cannabis worked wonders helping me heal the damage done via the pharmaceuticals. Ended up hooked on them (benzos) (clonazepam) while I spent a year in hell as my body/mind/spirit healed to a point of somewhat normal functionality from the damage. Attempted to withdrawal from the benzo's had to do many hours of research to find that the only medically established protocols had been developed in England, Dr. Heather Ashton's manual to be precise. Anyway on the last leg of withdrawal. Had to slow down as the benzo withdrawal as it wreaked havoc with my B/P. Today my medications don't out number my vitamins...lol. The proper strain of marijuana will outperform pharmaceuticals most times to treat most maladies not immediately life threatening, and even some that are. Finally found a doctor who understands my situation/needs and she has agreed to work with me on my healing journey. I know what strains work for me, now it's a matter of hoping that my LP grows a comparable strain/phenotype.
Today my pharmaceuticals are benzo (valium) withdrawaling, and two blood pressure one of which I've been green lighted to quit. Marijuana works wonders.....not marihauna as HC chooses to name it.....even the name they use is a holdover from the 1930's like most of our present governments ideologies..
