Induction Lighting?

Somebody mentioned something about induction lighting to me so i looked around and dug up this website
Amko Solara Induction Lighting System
it isnt as efficient as an HPS for lumens/watt but from the look of the light it may be cooler which could be ideal for some rooms

check it out let me know what you think

Edit: forgot to mention the lifespan is quite a bit longer than MH/HPS on these type of lights also

ive had a look around and i've found a company in the UK called Indo lighting selling a slightly different range of products...
 
The number of post you have doesn't change that fact that you got a bad attitude , if you did not care then why post. Obviously you sat down real quick one day and happened to lodge something huge right up your ass, or maybe you thought that you could increase your post count so you could pretend to be really intelligent. Having 5000+ post on this forum doesn't make you some expert on everything , it just means you have a lot of spare time. There are thousands of brilliant growers who have never used a computer.

The guy wanted to know about a subject that nobody here really cared about at the time.

Then he asked again.

I simply pointed out the obvious. And I was not rude about it.

It seems you are butt-hurt about it over two years after the fact.

You are correct, a five-thousand point count does not mean much. More than a few members rack up a post count that high in a matter of months. Funny how you ignored the fact that such is not the case here. Ive been around for a while.

Which is why the ravings of some random idiot who just got here has no effect. :clap:

Back to the subject at hand concerning induction lighting I just heard about it the other day and have been doing research. I talked at-length with tech support from inda-gro and this information is according to him.

They last about 60,000 hrs (11+ years @ 14hrs a day) before any noticeable decay in light quality (read somewhere some LED's decay 30% over 5 years but that depends on operational temperatures).

Operate much cooler than HID; no duct or vent just move some air around them if you're using a lot of wattage. One youtuber claimed 78% cooler operation.

They have a fairly high startup cost ($410 for 100W, $680 for 400W approximately) but the results, not needing to change bulbs, and the energy savings is where they make up for it apparently. The technician said I would see about 90% production results using the 400W induction lamp versus my 1000W HPS and one could reasonably replace 3-1000W HID with 4-400W induction.

They do have a 'ballast' like item called a 'driver.' Driver's are much lighter (~24 lb for the 400W he claimed).

Single bulb operates for 10+ years the same as day1 (supposedly) and you never change bulbs for veg/bloom.

Not sure about how close you want these lights to your plants; i would say just experiment.

Please forgive my rudimentary explanation of how it works but basically a noble gas (argon) is sitting in tubes and using metallic 'donuts' and current they can excite the gasses inside giving off light as it goes back to it's normal state. I only say this to compare to HID which is an incredibly hot-burning filament which is heated till it's glowing gives off so much light (but also tons of radiative energy, i.e. heat). This should help you understand how the induction is supposed to run much cooler and last longer.

I'm currently under 1000W HPS and was thinking of moving to LED after this grow finishes but after all this research I'm now thinking induction or maybe a combination thereof...

I am in the market to add a light to my op, maybe two more on top of that in a few months. I might consider one of these babies. So, obviously a 400w induction would use roughly the same electricity as a 400w HID, right? i.e. watts is watts

Yeah Serapis, I only looked because I read a couple small things on it elsewhere too. Sounds like induction might be more feasible than LED at least, at this point in time. What do you think?

LOL, it's all good. I believe that induction lighting will indeed outsell LED lighting. Most people aren't sold on colors. They want a light source they recognize as the sun, or something similar.

You raise an excellent point about visible color as measured in Kelvin being mostly a marketing tool to sell growers more lamps. Isn't it interesting that LED lamps avoid kelvin description entirely? They only reference the nanometer scale. check out the PAR comparisons on the http://inda-gro.com/gallery/album No 5; par comparisons. Pretty fucking interesting after all the crap LED marketing I've waded through over the years.

Induction lights run at a much cooler temperature than HID's and don't need a cooling fan like LED's. You can touch the tubes and they are hot, but you don't leave any skin and you don't get burnt. According to a couple of High Times articles, "induction lights are the future". In one of them is says that the light put out by induction lights is better and less wastful, in heat, than HID's, but, other than the heat and power issue, HID's still work better. But you still have to deal with the heat, power bills and relatively short lift span of the HID's. Another site you might want to check out is "ecogrowlights.com". Yep, your right, they would both use about the same power, the HID will waste a lot of it in heat as I'm sure you know.
