Indoor soil beds

Call me crazy but I'm trying to make indoor soil beds with drainage, but having trouble figuring out how to make the box have drainage.

We working on top of concrete and cant just have water all over the floors.

So I'm am trying to find a way to make a drainage system out the bottom and run it out through pipes or how ever

im definitely not an exspert but i had an idia what if u had at the bottem like a huge funnel i know like a beer bong sort of thing but bigger it would be one pipe might even be able 2 recycle the water idk just an idia :cool:

Drill holes in the bottom. Fit some metal roofing underneath to catch water. Have roofing angled toward gutters, gutters collect and drain into whatever necessary.

Disclaimer: Never done this just spitballing ideas as I'm thinking of doing something similar

simple ......u need to lay a liner in the bed feeding into a pipe .....u will need a incline so the water drains into it

the liner goes in then a layer of a rocks so the water can drain into .....i think about using some screening over the rocks to keep the roots from going in blocking the drain

rem if u are going to use a tiller to reclaim the beds to have enough height so the blades do not break the screen and mix the rocks into it

How about trays with your standard drain fitting up on sawhorses, with smartpot tray liners?

I Winn need to build 4 beds all 3x6 and 2 feet deep.

I think well build then on 4x4 using pine boards, lined with plastic.

On the bottom I'm going to put a layer of chicken wire then a layer of screen and another layer of chicken wire. and above the chicken wire maybe I could do a layer of lava rock

Underneath the bed could do catch and drain style

What about using a flood table and that screen thingand that smart tray . Hook the flood tray to a small res put a smaller pump run a hose to a drain or outdoors for grass flowers n such

Im using 100 gal smart pots tho...and I installed a drain at the end of a slope in my floor...so I hit my floor with water and don't even think about it. It all goes down the drain, not something you can really do yourself unless you've got a construction background and access to some nice tools tho... I also use a couple floor heaters in the winter and as always a dehumidifier. Moisture isn't much of a concern.

When I was thinking about building beds with wood...I was just gonna use 2x4s for the walls...and then a flat panel board for the floor. Put it up on blocks, then drill drainage holes in the bottom. You could do the same, then put a drip pan underneath. Either just pull the pan out. Or build it with a dip and assemble a PVC pipe system at the end of it.

You can trust me when I say I have all the tools needed to build a house from the from up, I actually built the car ports we are using. only thing is they we're never designed to have drains becuz it just wasn't a thought.

Here is what we thought of, please tell me your guys thoughts and concerns.

Build the box 3x6 and 2 ft deep.
On the bottom put a slight slope like a v and a trench drain in the middle. put a layer of lava rock on the bottom maybe 2 inches.

Very nice! Yeah man I don't see why that wouldn't work. I did the same kind of thing with my AC box, minus the lava rock lol.

get some slates, like small pavers, and put a layer of them on top of your gravel. we had to put drain tile in one end of a gravel parking area, then had to dig it up the next year and cover the smaller stones with much larger stone because the smaller stuff got plugged up immediately.

Good luck with your grow man I'm interested too see photos of yours and see how they compare with the 100 gallon smart pots I'm doing. My initial concept was to do beds like you are but the smart pots were cheaper than wood and less work.

Are you doing a no til set up?

Damn! 100 gal smart pots indoor? How high is your ceiling? Crazy.

I can max my colas out to six foot before I have problems lol. The idea is too go more wide and bushy than tall. Im growing all my non stretching strains just to be safe! Four plants a pot, so it works out to 25 gallons of soil for each plant. Hopefully shouldn't be too unmanageable lol. I've got pretty good canopy management, I'll definitely be testing my skills this round.
