Indoor closet grow

so i have a very weird setup i have a Sylvania 250watt 120v heat infrared lamp hanging over my container i just had finished germinating the seeds they are granddaddy purple seeds and im interested to know if thats the wrong light to use it emits red lighting and this is my first indoor grow and first seedling grow.

Infrared? damn that's a heat lamp! use cfl's! tubed flouros if nothing else! That lamp of your has the wrong color spectrun for pot plants. it's great for heating up some Mickeeedees burgers, though!

mmk i was thinking of going and getting what i can afford cuz its one plant in my closet and i was thinking of going to wal-mart to get a "plant growing light" but it was only 75watts and i have like 10 duckets to work with for choosing a light to get im seeing alot of cfl lights on wal-marts site and i know there is probably a better selection at home depot so any help on choosing to grow one or two plants would help

grow lights unfortunately, do not have the correct spectrum for pot plants. others will attest to that. on here, be patient, they'll be posting soon.

Buy Cfl's (compact flourescents) The little bulbs that screw into the incandescent sockets are what you are looking for. averaging 50w per plant you do the math for your plant (s) you want 3000lumens per sq. foot (if that helps) minimum.
(do not buy any kind of Miracle Gro potting soil. I used it it also sux. too acidic, and bug-infested. no timed release crap)
but again do not ever buy those gro lamps or tubes.

im very glad you suggested no miracle grow.. should i leave the seed in the soil until i get back from the store? cause now im not sure if its too late its only been a like 3 days in the soil.

and ill get 2 cfl's and some new soil with 10 duckets.

kind of...lol they just grow real slow now that they are in flowering stage and I still must use the same flouros, but for seedling and vegging they are great for a budget! my first shot is when I had 1 fixture ion top for seedlings. after transplanting they went down below. the second pic shows them all on bottom with both fixtures now down there.

okay so in what form of wattage?
cfl wattage ?
or regular wattage per plant?
cause i have a cfl for one plant it is a 25 watt cfl which is equivalent to 75 watts.
