In london uk, need help in set up for indoor grow

Hi all.
Just need a bit of advice. I want to start growing with a 10 pot Wilma/X-tank. With either Clay pebbles or coco. Under a 600w Hps. They will be started from seed(northern lights or Afghan). They will be grown in a box room (bedroom) 6 foot x 7 thats about 8 foot high. Not worried about yield getting things wrong etc. Learning is part of the fun I suppose. But will a 600w light be ok for this room size. Also just how much heat will be given out by this light, and would 10 plants really smell that much. ie if i open the window to get the heat out, would the smell of 10 plants really escape that much? And as this is in the bedroom next door would a 10 pot Wilma/X-tank, HPS light, Ballast, water pump etc be quite noisy. Really sorry for the stupid quesions but don't want to spend all my money and never set it up or kill all the plants due its noise, heat from the light or bankruptcy from the electricity company? Also does anyone nw when I should start germinating from seed if i want to plant outdoors. Ive seen start germinating from mid to end of february on window sill for about 4 weeks then place them outside during the day for about 4 weeks then plant out in mid april. Thanks to all for looking/helping

in terms of noise, i have that kinda stuff in the room i sleep in and while i can hear the ballast click on and off in the monrning and at night, it's not a disturbance.

for 10 plants i think you might be pushing it a little bit with a 600w hps.

i don't know about your location, whether by opening a window you'd be putting yourself at risk etc (and yes with 10 plants you open that window and it will smell smell smell smell smell. i'd suggest buying a tent to grow in, this way you can use a carbon filter to remove the honk from the plants, means whole room doesn't smell, you can have window open etc, you can also control the environment a lot easier if it's in a tent as opposed to a big open room. plus again with the lack of knowledge of your location, but i've mentioned it before, and that is that people are suspicious of covered up windows, etc, if i saw a nighbour had a window covered over all day every day always, i'd know for sure there was some sort of growing etc going on behind it, and these days a LOT more people feel it's their duty as nosy neighbours to phoneup hotlines to voice their susision etc)

I think you hit it with "learning." I really advise you to start smaller, learn a lot from your first grow, and go from there. If you have a 600w ballast you can use a smaller bulb and grow maybe 4 plants. That way you can learn gradually how much heat, odor and noise will be produced.

I think what i will do is get the 10 pot and take some pots out and keep 4 in there like illegal suggests. Then if i get any better i dont need to upgrade just add the pots back in!! Also i think a grow tent and carbon filter is definatley the way to g(r)o(w)!!!! Are carbon filtrs that good. I notie that you still have to have a ducting pipe out the window to stop the walls getting wet. Does the pipe emit smells to the outside world or is just moisture that escapes and the filter itself absorbs all the smells?

Is it profitable???

First few grows just start w/a few seeds cause chances are it may fail . I think growing inside is a real bitch ,alot of things to learn and keep up with . you may want to consider hempy buckets to grow in . <search You will find every one who grows this way find it easy .
A higher ceiling will help in a grow room . the higher the better. For heat.
Venting out sideways out of a window ,maybe .But up out top of roof is better. Its going to stink ,some strains feature less odor. Problem is If your nutes are 20% perfect, your plants may not stink too much ,like if the cal/mag is low ... but if you get your nutes just right ,within a few hours the odor can go up fast. Then your scrambling to fix this problem , been there.
Indoor growers control there humidity, high humidity for seeds (in dome) .. A little less for seedlings , a little less for veg ... and so on ... Say about ~50% for veg. This should not give much problem for walls ,but in a perfect world, a grow room should have vapour barrier walls so you can control it . Vapour barrier can be proper plastic/film or paint (sealant).

Heres the link romano for a 10 pot wilma

http://www.hydroponic-shop.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=635

It looks like a pretty good set up to me....

if your growing in a flat in london be very careful who you tell and very careful not to let the smell or any other indicaters escape, iv known alot of people who have been robbed cause of there grows, also if its your first grow just start a bit smaller, whats 4 months practice in the grand scheme of things?

thanks for the advice jonny. I think i will start with the atami wilma 10 pot. You can take out pots as and if you dont need them. So i can start with one or two, then grow more without having to upgrade. Does anyone know people with this setup and is it anygood

I'd say just use all ten pots, you may as well if they are there. Especially if your growing from seed cause youll have half males so you should be left with 5 or six females which is good amount for a 600w.

Wlma systems are pretty fool proof i had one but it pissed me off having to remove all the plants to get to the nutrient tank. You will be better to grow in a tent or a homemade room inside your bedroom for ventilation and light purposes.

Plants may get crowded in wilma, ... My hempy buckets are two of the exact same pots .one slips inside other. The outside one ,no holes (and cover with foil tape). Tha inside pot drill a hole about an inch up from bottom . Thats it .When you want to drain ,just lift the inner up and out ,tilt it and let it sit on top of outer pot at an angle to drain .(the taller the plant ,the better it stays there or just hold it there untill it drains) To hold all your pots ... I build a box with cedar board sides and bottom and ~3" thick styrofoam board top. Get a drywall hole cutting tool and drill or cut out holes for your pots. YOU CAN REMOVE THE STYROFOAM top LATEr and replace it with a piece that has holes more spread out (AS your plants get bigger) .I put christmas lights on dimmer in the box to cotrol root temp.I use either spongey plugs or rockwool to start seeds then place that right in clay pebbles .Im going to try like perlite one day.
Feed by hand w/small ~.5 gal . pump up sprayer.
I call it 'Get a life' modified hempy . Because the clay dries out fast and Im hand feeding 2-4 times during lights on. I hear perlite/verm. stays wet like a day or two.
Just a friendly thought. Oh yeah your going to only grow a certain amount so they would have room in the wilma. Yeah start with 10 seeds then when you weed out the males you will have more room .!!!

no, east coast usa .. Oh your wilma is clay pebbles with drip feed right?... If u dont already know ..Depending on how much nutes you put through those pebbles, you will need to flush.I dont have to flush until week 4 and after that like once a week . Again I need a life so I have time right now to flush alot and I like the hands on with the plants like with foliar feeding .
And ... try to get/or make a circular drip feeder instead of just one line dripping.

Flush till wee four? Is that 4 weeks after you transfer them to the Wilma or growing medium that is to be used? Or four weeks during flowering? Also when you say flushing out, what exactly is that? Is that saturating the roots with neutral ph water. Then I take it you after you have flushed you start feeding nutes every week or so?

Some say flush w/plain ph water. some say add a little nutes because zero ppm water May shock roots. I flush with hygrozyme ,or calmag and hygrozyme, or clearx .. I start flushing or leaching week 4 after seed (start of grow).I havent used much nutes until then.
Then I flush like once a week . Some say not needed , but it dont hurt and for me its only going through a gal of distilled water. After a flush usally see a good growth spurt .I fill my pots with what ever flushing solution ,maybe let it sit a bit then drain to waste. Im soaking all the clay pebbles as deep into the pebble as possible ,so they will stay wetter longer is added advantage . What and how you flush is not as important as DOING the flush . After the flush I just wait till that dries out a bit Then feed .. right away is ok .People say let your roots dry out a bit ,but its a balance, If your giving roots water rich in oxygen it s ok to. letting them almost dry out can be a good thing , the older the plant the easier this is ,. If you use hygrozyme or similiar, after u use it you will find the roots will take up more moisture for a day or two. Im asssuming this is your first grow ?/ Somany things to learn . For me Im in grow 7 And Ive got the enviroment down and Im about 90% happy w/my nutes .

So 4 weeks after transfering the grow cubes to the medium of clay pebble i have to flush by saturating te rots with pure neutral ph water. Then fill Wilma tank back up with pur ph water again but with the right nutes????

Yes Romano it wll be my first grow and no nothing about it. I havent even got the Atami Wilma yet. But I do have about £500 to get set-up. What with the Wilma 10 pot start up kit, grow tent, carbon filter, bottles of feed etc.... But know it will be a steep learning curve and all help will be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get started actually and post any pics on-line. Do you or anyone know of any links to a fool proof grow guide, or someone that has logged a step by step guide or weekly log? As this will help me how to get the right environment not to overfeed too much or too little etc. I really want to get a half decent grow 1st time round.
Also i need to know if i attach the duct from the carbon filter to the window will the air coming out of the duct pipe still smell of weed or will it be all or mostly be absorbed by the filter??? I have asked this but i dont think no one has answered this.
