Alright guys, I know a lot of people here play guitar and other instruments. I'm looking for some advice on buying a guitar. As a beginner... I don't want a $1,000 one... looking for a nice one around $250... maybe used.

Links are more than welcome :)

I'd buy used off ebay.

For that price you are looking to buy a guitar that regularly sells online for double the price new. (ex. $250 should buy you a normally $500 guitar)

A guitar in great condition except for some paint scratches is where you'll find a best for the buck deal imo. Paint scratches do nothing to the guitar's playability or tone...but they lower the value dramatically.

You have to do some research and shop.

Electric or a acoustic?

I would suggest acoustic for a beginner, and $170 should get you something nice.

Used, try pawn shops, and music stores, and then offer them half of whatever they're asking... With the economy the way it is, you can drive a hard bargain.

When buying used 50% of the original price is considered fair. Here are some nice ones I just found browsing ebay

Takamine G-230 Acoustic Guitar with Nice Windsor Case US $175.00
Ovation 6 String, Made in USA! Cool! Bid US $227.50

Applause by Ovation - AE128 Acoustic/Electric Guitar Bid US $122.50

Ovations have super easy action like an electric

Yamaha FG-335II Acoustic Guitar Great Condition US Bid $51.00
