I'm evolving..., along with my Grow Room

:blsmoke:We got the new law and it took awhile to get my card but did get legal. Since then, been on this lil quest to build a grow room and grow enough "quality" weed to take care of my needs.

Started out with a little 3' x 3' x 4' reflective closet under my passive flow hanging furnace. Amounted to a foil lined box with 3 - 40 watt 4' flouro's. That allowed me time to start a grow room build.

First thing I did was build me a bench from some 2 x 3's I had in the back from the bent and twisted sale. Added a scrap piece of vinal for a cover and a top from a computer center that was thrown out for shelving. Final demensions 68"x32"x41"

Sliding doors were easy. I used the aluminum rails from an old set of shower doors also rescued from the alley and a couple chunks of 3/8" plywood. This area will serve as my new Veg Room.

This is also where I made one of my first mistakes...., seems I thought it would be a great idea to build in this huge mirror as the back wall of my under bench veg room. Well I learned through an earlier post this is just not the case. The problem with mirrors is in light diffusion and can be researched in a post I have in Newbies Central entitled.. https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/396027-mirrors-no-good-seriously.html

I have temporarily leaned some rigid foil back insulation against the back until I get to Billings for Mylar... Which according to scientific backed research is teh best of my options.
(Followed by my next best option, Flat White Paint)

Next I needed to put up a wall to confine my Grow Room as other than tthe little wall behind my bench and around the hanging furnace the basement was entirely open. Using more of the 3 x 3's from the bent and twisted sale I constructed a couple stud walls and secured in place on the main beam dividing the basement, I had a hollow core door out in the garage I cut down to fit and hung between the two stubwalls I had constructed. For covering these walls I had a roll of 4' Foil backed duct wrap (insulation) and tacked it up over the studs. All things considered it makes that $8 in materials look good.

That left me an 11' x 13' main floor area to use as my tentative flower room. Since I only had the one "Purple Buddah" started from the onset, and 1 small clone from her that I threw into flowering after 2 weeks of veg to kinda see what I could expect from 6 shorter plants, I set up my 3 lights that I have scavenged from the first little foil box and added another $20 bill for a total of 5 - 40 watt 4' flouro's mixed spectrums hung vertically on the wall and a 150 watt Hps hanging. I then built a small prtable stud i use to wrap additional 4' Foil backed duct wrap to put reflective all around my flowering plant.

Since Budget is always a concern I made myself a "halo" from 2 plastic hangers to support tubing for my gallon jug co2 generator.

Well so far, there she be, I believe the next thing I need to invest in is more lighting followed by a legitiment co2 system. Whats your thoughts ?
I plan on updating this as I udate the room.

Howdy - listening to a station out of Montana right now: http://newsradio970.com/ Think they're out of Billings? They have a nice stream for listening to Coast to coast am! But back on topic...your grow room looks great!! Yeah mirrors suck, mylar is only a wee better than flat white paint, and if you're worried about it getting too hot flat white paint doesn't trap in as much heat. Way to go with using salvaged material. The closet I'd like to build is going to run me about $150- from furring strip and plywood to white paint, hinges and locks. I'm thinking about lurking around craigslist.com to find some old hollow core doors-that was a great idea. The neat thing I read on RIU about 2mil mylar (unlike 1mil) is that it actually keeps lite out and you can use it to divide your grow space. I suggest ordering gear from lovelandhydroponics.com if you don't go the ace hardware way, they're the cheapest I've found in Colorado for gardening supplies and they've always got great deal/coupon codes on their websites. Think they've got big rolls of 2mil mylar for $12 or so right now.

I am using four 4' fluros for my veg and clones and a 250w hid for my flowering. My plants are moving into flower sometime this week - they're in 3.5 gallons and the roots are staring to peek out the drain holes. I'd say this is a def' sign to flower but also a warning to perhaps use a bit taller containers in the future if possible!

Go buy some Panda Film its cheap and replace that FOIL. Foil is bad it causes hot spots which can burn your plants.

Best of Luck

looks more like mylar in the photos but if it is foil toss it stunts growth by reflecting ultra violet light. doing great SUB'd:mrgreen:

Yepper, Its foil, but only for a few more days. Definately hope to hae the bulk of the room covered in mylar or flat white within a week or so. Time being the issue this week. Fortunately, I havent been experienceing any hot spots yet.and my Prize beauty, the Purple Buddha is budding nicely.:blsmoke:
