i'm a dirt farmer no more :)

reading about how easy bubbleponics can be really made me want to try it out, so here i am, day 95 (from seed) of my first bubbleponic very small closet grow.

i started with 2 seeds that i found in a few bags of choice nuggage, put them in peatpellets and nestled them in two 5" net baskets filled with hydroton (i call them co co puffs).

i am using an 18 gallon plastic storage tub with custom holes for the net baskets. i placed the tub inside a cardboard box and taped it on for sake of being light tight. i also spray painted the lid black to ensure no light gets in.

lights used: veg stage -9 X 26 watt daylight CFL
flowering stage - 1 x 65 watt and 4 x 40 watt soft white CFL

i have three 5" air stones along the bottom of the tub (i was originally planning on growing 3 plants) so i guess it was a good idea because the roots now can find bubbles pretty much wherever they be.

i started the grow with buying 18 gallons of distilled water, but have since switched to rain water.
i have never changed the water, just keep adding water as she drinks it. i don't believe that you should have to change the water weekly or monthly or anytime. i think with adding a small bit of hydrogen peroxide it will work itself out as long as the container is light tight. but i've only added hydrogen peroxide maybe 3 times this entire grow. i will do a total flush with plain water (no nutes) in a few weeks in preperation of harvest.

day 46 i had to kill one of the plants because it was showing male signs like tiny balls forming , luck would have it the other plant turned out to be female :)

i used trellis and trained it to grow more horizontal then up, so now there are 8 big stems that look like separate plants coming up competing with the original top of the plant. at first glance it looks like many plants but if you look down you only see one stem :)

i think i'm about 2 weeks away from harvest, maybe 3 weeks. /shrug

i just wish i had more room in the closet to grow my lady out horizontal. sadly when i switched from 24 hr light to 12/12, up was the only direction she could grow =/

the tops got burnt about 10 days ago, the tops are still recovering and its slow going. here are some pics from tonight "day 108" from seed.

yes! finally on day 124 the tops are starting to rebuild from being burned from my grow lamp, and the middles of each top are turning green again. they were yellow and crispy a few weeks ago.

this wouldnt be my first grow without also having fudged up the nutes during flowering stage, being that i assumed i could use the same bottle of nutrients i used for veg for flower being that the bottle had dose directions for flowering stage...not knowing that there are 2 other bottles of nutes i needed, micro and bloom. so she seems to be doing much better with the proper dose of nutes.

btw, i am currently using an HPS 150w from sun systems. i gotta say, wow the HPS light kicks serious ass compared to the CFLs, IMHO.

what nutrients are you using??? i love my bubble ponic system and it worked really well for a month or so till i got root rot and now i have tried everything to get rid of it and im just getting started again

my nutrients are made by general hydroponics, the floragrow and floramicro...i am not using the 3rd bottle "florabloom".

if you get rootrot, try adding a capful of hydrogen peroxide. i am going on 4th month of my current grow session with out changing the water once. i do add water as needed but never actually drained my 18 gal res.

try hydrogen peroxide :)

i do the same thing with my fish tank, i never change the water, just add a bit of hydrogen peroxide every few months lol. it works.

I agree, H2O2 is great. I add a little bit to my waterings even in soil grows. It oxygenates the water slightly and we all know how much roots LOVE oxygen, just look at your plant!

I'd love advice on how you trained one plant to grow so well! How much does that lady drink?

+REP, great job man! You've made it 100% official, my next grow will def be a Bubbles set-up.

thanks D.tea, she drinks alot of water, i havent actually kept track how much i water, but if i had to guess it would be more or less 2 or 3 gal per week.

i started LST when she was just under 2' tall. a few days later i added a trellis and fanned all the branches out horizontally. my dilema was i ran out of grow space quickly, so i ended up having to grow the branches vertical after a certain point. some of the taller branches i even had to cris cross with shorter branches to maintain a level canopy. my single plant had 20+ branches but the lack of space caused the stronger branches swallow up and prune out the weaker branches, it actually shriveled up the weaker branches lol. so i literally couldnt tell what was what sometimes from the thickness of the canopy. now after it's self pruning, it has 11 tops. i previously thought i had 8 tops, but actually found 3 smaller ones that got burried in the middle, they all look pretty tasty.

anyways, my advice is to have plenty of space to train your plant's top and all other branches to grow out horizontally in all directions. try to maintain a level canopy. and don't burn the tops during flowering stage like i did lol.

thanks D.tea....and don't burn the tops during flowering stage like i did lol.
No problem man, its a little late for this thou, on of my bulbs got right on one of my tops, caught it before it could do serious damage, and the only harm was the new growth got cooked real bad, but the bud part was fine, and is still growing.

wow ok, now feeding her a 3 part mix of flora bloom / flora grow / flora micro from general hydroponics. i should have been feeding her all 3 previously but aparently i'm a slow hydroponics noob, lol.
