Blue Hole, Dahab

Nicknamed the "Divers' Cemetery," with more than 70 fatalities (some claim the actual number is over 100), Dahab's Blue Hole is basically a coral lagoon which opens to the Red Sea through a tunnel known as "the Arch." The roof of the Arch lies at a depth of 52 m (170 ft). The featureless depths beyond the Arch render the tunnel to the open sea appear shorter than it really is; in addition, a shoreward current causes the 26 m (85 ft) swim through the tunnel longer than its physical distance suggest it to be. The base of the Arch rests at 120 m (393 ft), after which it plunges to 1000+ m (3280+ ft) beyond. Scores of divers have fallen victim to its deceptive nature. The bottom of the Blue Hole is littered with scuba equipment and the bodies of their former owners; the cliffs around the bay bear their epitaphs.

do you dive puffer? I'm a certified master scuba diver

I was just recently doing some diving in Micronesia. Saw some human remains, but nothing like that one guy just layed out with his tank above him (I wonder why nobody recovered the body?)

I saved a woman plunging to about 800+ft, in the dark, at night! I cought her at like 120ft breathing on EANx 32!

I also remember myself being entranced by the depth, drawn to it. I was on a slanted wall, and I remember checking my depth at 120, then found myself around 145! The deeper you go, the more the air in your jacket compresses, and the less buoyancy you have, so you find that the deeper you drift, the faster you start to drop

The pic attached is around 130-140ft, on a small ledge in belize, on a wall that plunges down to 1200ft-1600ft

lOl YES SIR i dive hello brother.

Thank you for the pics ... it's like being there ... as I can share your experience to a t ... hats off !

The reason why they have not recovered the bodies is because it is very dangerous to go salvaging ... there is tons of bodies in the blue hole. Egypt, poor country ... expensive to pull out ... tourists ... lol
Strong currents suck you in .... and out the shelf ... Lots of caves to loose yourself in my brother.

But you would know how that works :)

Props on the 'save' .... dude that is huge .... did you keep in touch and does she still get wet ?? lol

How did that feel ?? for ya .. do tell !

Now for the Blue Hole
Had a pleasure of diving there back in 2005 wicked you must go !!
The coral and fish on top ... camel safari to get there.
The stickiest Lebanese hash ..... I bough some from a Bedouin shaman in the middle of the desert on the way.

I am glad that we share a hobby ... there is nothing like the silence and isolation of the deep !!
What do you think of this guy ?
Play a game with me and hold your breath on this dive. ;)

I could imagine the whole salvaging thing :) Thats pretty sad. At least for the divers to remain there

No, I don't keep in touch or remember her. We happened to be in the same group doing a night dive. The boat had a huge line on it, and was supposed to be over this wall, anyway, the boat swung over the reef/wall and was hanging over the abyss. She jumped off, and I was like a minute behind her. My buddy was already going down. Anyway, I get into the water, look down with my light and see a faint green glow below. I KNOW that were not over the reef, so I was getting my bearings checking my compass when I decided to go check it out.. I'm chasing the light stick glo, but there is no other light (pitch black water but I have a very bright uk c8 eled light) so I'm checking my computer, as i chase this light, 60 feet, 90 feet, 115 feet! SHIT! I finally get down to her, GRAB her fucking first stage, yank her up, grab her BC, put air in it, hand her my backup light, SHOW her the depth (she practically shit herself when she saw the reading) and told her to get to the surface... she quit the dive. She was married

After that I was approached by her and her hubby, thanking me for the light and giving it back and all. She said her light failed, so she dropped the air out of her bc and was waiting to hit the reef??? LOL wtf?! right? o2 toxicity for EANx 32 is like 140something feet

Yes I've seen that guy do freedives, very cool! Hes wicked good. When I spent a few weeks on a boat, I could get to like 50 feet without fins, and about 80 feet with fins.. spend about 10-15 seconds then get the fuck up :)

Lots of surface pics ... but to many faces ;)
Ups hold on ... got a stealth one ...

Now I am going to have to put ...
Dive with Sr Verde ... on a 10 strip
...... on my to do list :)

Shallow depth ... lol .... let's keep it safe.

PS ... I am working on a 70 G reef tank ... as a reminder of my voyages ..... and also as visual stimulant while in flight ...
I have purchased my first bubble head anemone ... with a companion. This is how it looks ... imagine watching this on strips ....
