Anybody have any thoughts on the Mars Pro lights e.g. the Epistar 320?
Seems to have a lot of useless (to myself at least) features such as humidity and temperature monitoring.. I have a device to do that already, I don't want to pay for one when I'm buying lights. All those adjustment features are really cheap to make. Probably grows plants just like the other Mars lights.

The monitoring will be irrelevant as that's done via the fan/heater controller

The important thing is being able to custom mix the blue/red light and set the brightness of it, changing it through the day for dawn/dusk cycles, seedlings, etc.

Wow JimmyIndica, i am finding it so hard to get red and black 18awg solid core in the UK. That web address they only have red. I have tried everywhere so getting rather stressed. Has anyone got any ideas? I could buy stranded but then i would have to tin. I wanted to be solderless. If anyone has a good link i would be so grateful.

cheers

I struggle with this as well. I ended of buying 100ft rolls of white and black at a place called Frys in Texas when I was there last week. How much are you needing?
RS components and CPC should have it but it is images.jpg in the U.K.
If you have a safe alternate address I can post you some.

Cheers,
Will

Well, I can't afford Cree....
And they have comparatively shorter lifespans than decent cobs. I consider kits employing Epistars as "disposable lights" - be ready to replace it with a new one after a couple of grows.

Granted these new Mars Pro lights are relatively new, but the stigma the company's left is something to be leery of. Invest wisely.

For the record, I was about to pull the trigger on Mars Pros (yeah, multiple units). I stopped being stingy when I saw how unreliable these MAY BE (based on the company's track record). I can't imagine how returns or warranty claims will be moreso with international purchases.

I'm a reader of a UK grow forum and their lights last more than two grows, especially if you mod them for better fans and ventilation (which you shouldn't have to do but there you go), but yeah they're not as rugged as more expensive ones.

The problem is, they're rated for much more aren't they? Others claim 3-5 year warranties when their fixtures aren't even designed for such rigorous operating schedules, failing within a year. You're lucky if they last more. I call this deception. Most LED modules have a rated lifespan of 50,000 hours - that's 5.71 years. LEDs (and most solid state electronics) run within acceptable operating conditions normally reach this. Most cheap 1/3/5W LED lights are in garbage bins right now, the surviving rest are all exceptions.

Save money in the long run and get the best lights you can afford (avoiding all low-end products). Your plants, wallet, and sanity will thank you.
