Are there any new models coming out before I take the leap on area or Hans?
Han's just came out with his latest recently and probably won't be upgrading that soon I bet. The latest A51s may be upgradable. I've heard rumors the white panel may get an upgrade to it's diodes and of course they've got a mini panel system or something like that coming. Panels are like buying a computer, of course there's always a new model coming out. Just got to figure out when to jump in. Good luck.

So I have a 2'7" X 2'7" X 5'3" tent. I currently run 400 watt HPS/MH combo. The heat is becoming annoying, as is having so much venting duct inside a small tent.

I want to invest in an LED panel close to equivalent to the 400watt HPS/MH.

I keep seeing people reference "hans", and overall I have no idea where to look.

So I have two questions.

Can LED's produce as hell as HID yet?

What do you recommend I look into buying?

That's actually a good question in this day and age. What panels can replace a 400HPS without making the buyer change his style too much? I think the latest A51 can do that. 2 of Han's latest should. 2 Blackstars 240s are close to an old dirty 400 HPS :) . Apache makes a few models that you could drop in. The decent Chinese panel makers like Evergrow can but they still produce a bit of heat and aren't worth it most of the time since your ebill won't be that much lower and your yield could be on the low side at first. Plantphotonics makes a model that should be able to. Cali Light Works has a model or two. Rhino's should. Anyone else? There must be a few I'm missing. Like Lumigrow's http://www.lumigrow.com/products/pro-series-greenhouse-lights which will probably crush a 400HPS in both power used and yield.

How many plants do you want to grow? What are you pulling off your 400?

Last grow I did two plants. Got 256 grams combined. I am moving to one plant, but with a much larger container for my next grow. I am just debating if it's worth changing my lighting system for heat/space saving, or if I should just buy a new hood.

When I get my panels I plan on SCROG. I don't like the intensity of LED, but I LOVE the spectrum. A nice even canopy and a great full spectrum will be gramtastic! I can't wait till I get my Hans...or Area 51s.

Hello All, I have been looking to switch a grow box I got from a friend that he made from CFL lighting to LED lighting with some supplemental CFL lighting. The dimensions of the box are a length of 29 inches a height of 24 inches and a depth of 18 inches. I have been looking at this light http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-7-Band-135w-UFO-LED But I'm not sure if I have enough height in the box to hang the light without bleaching the leaves of the plants. My question is, do you think I would be safe using the ufo model or one of the 180 models from HTG, or do you think I should buy multiple of this light http://growace.com/grow-light/led-grow-lights/36-watt-advanced-spectrum-max-dual-band-3w-chip-led-grow-bulb.html? Do you think it would be easier to light up my space with the big one or a lot of the little ones? and do you think the lower amount of spectrums in the smaller lights will affect plant growth? Thanks a lot for the help!! :)

So I would think a good grower like you with the right plant wouldn't miss a beat. Maybe the first run a little, but if you're scrogging you couldn't go wrong. You'll save money in the long run but if you can put solid numbers u with a 400 I kinda feel dumb telling you to switch. If you get a quality panel, you'll like it. The Dawg just had an excellent run with is A51. You may want to see his thread. Good Luck.

I'm assuming you're in the USA, right? Have you seen this thread?

The lights that captainmorgan is using will almost certainly do the job you're looking to do. I think it's safe to say HTG LEDs are not a favorite around here and at that price you can buy quite a few of the CREE bulbs that seem to work great in smaller areas. Plus the CREES are dimmable so if you start to "bleach" your plants you can dim them. Good Luck!

Between you and the guy who ran off to buy 2 of them, is it safe to assume the opinion is that these are viewed as being able to produce equivalent or better results in flower?

According to the man who makes and tests them out yepppppppppppppppppp

hey guys,

I'm looking for sufficient LED lighting for a 4x4 tent. Four plants.

I would like to use the lighting for the entire plant lifecycles.

Can anyone toss some suggestions this way? I'd like to compare some panels that might work for my purposes.

I don't have much to spend. Under $600 preferably. To me, it's worth it to not have to power a 600W MH/HPS... and I really don't want to buy another one of those.

It's hard to tell what the best is these days / optimal from LEDs for growing since the tech seems to be changing pretty quickly

Done allot of research and decided to settle on the Lumigrow 325. Unfortunately I am away from home for alittle while longer and have not had the chance to actually
grow with it yet. But just hooking it up it is bright as hell and pulls a true 325 watts with my killa watt meter.

Please post some pics when you finally get growing with it. I've been waiting for a legit grow with lumigrow for a long time.

You can count on it! Gotta read up on how to start a journal so peeps can guide me along some and slap me upside the head when I make mistakes. Should be growing Late Oct / Early Nov time frame. The grow will all be from feminized seeds, I have c99, Vanilla Kush, LSD, and Bubblegum. Floranova nutes will be used.

The Botanicare E/F system holds up to eight plants but only going to run probably four to keep things simple and under control somewhat lol. Any recommendations which strains will play nice together and by that I mean growth heights/bushiness.

I am thinking --- and c99 together. Oh I will be growing in the Jardine DR90ii btw. Sorry meant to grow bubblegum and not the VK with cinderella.

I think those are good choices and probably the easier to grow out of your choices. Never grown any of them but know some folks who enjoyed vanilla kush. I just wrapped up a cotton candy bubblegum that was nice and chunky. All you gotta do to start a journal is create a new thread either in the led sub forum if over in the journal page. Would get more feedback here though.

I'm no LED expert but I know a useful spectrum. Just look at the spectrum of an HPS and you'll see all the green and yellow it puts out...all wasted power. That's why I only veg and flower with CMHs and get better results. Now look at the spectrum of a Hans and you'll notice the blues and reds which the plants do use. I'm convinced and seen enough to know I'm ready to join the big boys.

Spectrum is only half of the equation actual output of actually photons is the other half. Spectrum makes more of them usable, but you are still constrained my the output because of the energy in it to drive photosynthesis.
Here is a very theoretical example...
Lets say a 400w hps puts out 1400µmols, but only 60% is usable by the plants. Thats about 840µmols that are considered used.
Well if you get a led panel that puts out 800µmols in a 90% usable spectrum it will still fall short despite the added benefits from the spectrum.

If you are trying to step up from the 400hps than hans would not be my pick. His panel is amazing at making the best of very small spaces...but a step up in normal situations I would not agree.

The days of LED's only having a better spectrum and not enough intensity is a thing of the past. A51 is a great choice and are using tech that will compete with the 400w in the intensity category and blow it away with spectrum. Specially there newer model to come.

I don't know of anything in that price range that will do a really good job for you at 4 X 4. Area51 makes some very nice lights which are on sale now and you can pick up $535 but they cover at best 2 x 3 foot area and I would probably tend to go a little less than that. Be very careful about coverage claims by most manufacturers. If you want to be generous you could say that they are talking about the area to veg but if you don't want to be generous...there are a lot of con artists out there. Make a crop, buy the second one and you fill your grow tent and are set for lights for a while. There are some other manufacturers like Hans, maybe rhino grow, plant photonics and maybe Apache will finally get out their new light which does sound interesting...
