Not sure this will help or not... A light that I have created uses a 0.75" x 4.75" x 9.75" heat sink, and the base is 0.125" thick and there's 16 fins that are also 0.125" thick.

With a Vero 29 at 2.15a, it is 35°C actively cooled, and 63°C passively cooled with no changes except for turning the fan off. 63°C is doable.

The 4.85" @ 9" long will give the same or slightly better than those numbers, with the Vero 29. As long as you don't use some janky thermal paste.

i use a mars hydro 1600 watt. it was 570$ shipped to the door.

its blowing away traditional 1000 watt magnetic ballast HPS lighting.

you guys have any thoughts on mars hydro?

thanks for that data point. helps me characterize how much the 4.85 hs can handle.

Hello all want to do a Diy

4x CXB3590 - 3500k - 72v
2x HLG-185H-C1400B

will this let me run them at 100 watts each and will it active cooling and a heat stink from HSUSA

Below is the plan... ?

That's a killer combo. Ive been testing 72Volt CB 30G and CB 40G and CD 40G with HLG-185H-C1400B the last 4months and found that running CXB3590 at 100watts and Vero29 at 120watt lets you run the operating distance at24inches and the coverage area during flower is extended without losing penetration. Optics play a big role in penetration power also

I'll keep this in mind when I add more LEDs

I'm trying to hunt for good bin cree cob's. Can't afford anything like the 35XX, limited to range of 3070 variations.
Any tips other than copy and paste from data sheets to electronics parts finders?
For my purposes, 4,000K followed by 3,500K as far as color.
I do not understand the 2, 3, and 5 step columns...
Just trying to build something with a mean well (forget the letters, frustrated now) 185 series, 1050mA

It is possible I will settle on a few Vero 18 because of budget, maybe Vero 29's but unsure if I can run as few as I can afford with that driver.

OK, getting out to enjoy the weather... get my mind off COB's for a few minutes :)

Octopart can give you the info you need, just click the in stock box. If you go the Vero 29 route, the pico connectors, the holders, and the COB is about $32 each. That should run four, I think.

Bonjour
If you aim for high bin cxb 3590 3500ºk 36V CD (higher bin available in 3500ºk) go to kingbrite they have some!...Same for Vero29 (25 $ I guess)
Forget about 2, 3 and5 step! The hlg-185-1050b can run 5 V29! What you want the cob for? Vegg , flo or both?
What size is your box?
If you buy picomolex to connect V29 take care of the wires size (there is one too smal)!
Have a great day ★

Mostly veg but would like ability to flower even if it means a couple of strings of red... or strings of blue to for better veg.
cabinet is 2'x3', if i remember right, 45" between top of growing media and mounting rail for light.
Are picomolex the common way to go? searching for part numbers, for any type of molex for fans gets confusing.

Can some recommend a cost effective 100w COB LED set up for a schmo in Canada? I'm using a 2x2 tent for 2 plants.

I've inquired with Kingbrite on Alibaba,
2 x CXA3070 AB 3000K
2 x holders
1 x HLG-185H-C1400B

After shipping..roughly $220CAD. Not including tax and potential duty for importing. Even factoring heat sinks, and misc items for building, I'm over 350CAD. The marshydro 400w is about $300 but it's got mixed reviews across the cannabis forums.

Cheers

Debating on getting 2 PLC or one 500 watt optic led(thanks jimmyindica lol) It'll be for a 4x4. But just want some input on both of them because it's hard to make up my mind on either one of them. Thanks.

why set on 1 optic 500w panel and not 2 smaller fixtures?......................anyways to answer your question 2 plc is the way to go, lots of light for a 4x4=== big buds, built in dimmer if temps get hot/height issues, I prefer reflectors over lenses, etc....

happy shopping SchitHole..............lol

Hey ya all, I am brand new to the LED game, but reading up a lot and trying to learn as much as possible. I would like to build a unit for a tent I have that is 120 x 70 x 165 cm. I would like to build a unit that is capable of both veg and flower. I have access to 11 Z50 LOW PROFILE cob holders and 2 x HLG185H-C500B which I would like to use on the project. Could anyone give me good recommendations for something like this? Thank you so much.

I do know how to grow, I don't know what it is like to grow under LED's.
Review / Suggest Vero build:
2x3.1' footprint, 45" from light mounting bar to top of growing media. Take out 4 inches for height of fixture, ideal to keep tops of plants 10" from lights which will let me grow 31" tall plants?

For financial reasons, the 3570's cannot be used. I had to negotiate with my better half and even the 3070's are now out of the budget.

HLG-185H-C1050 for driver.
Can I mix Vero 18, 29 and run at same time on same driver?
If both 18's and 29's can be used at same time I'm guessing I can use one or two of the higher voltage 5,000K which have higher output?
I have one of the epileds "30W" full spectrum. Never used it. Spec's say 30-36 volts, 1.05 A current - I don't have to use it, but wondering if it can be included on the string.
I may have garden vegetable seedlings on one side of the cabinet, and if I happen to want to flower, will use half of the cabinet. Like I said, I do know how to grow plants and am aware of the compromises. Would just be growing for high CBD strain and have low personal use requirements which I can supplement with "regular" herb. For that reason I could go as low as somewhere in the 2700K range for "flower" side.

Here is the grow cabinet (I have four sets of shelves, the others are for tools and general household storage, this one is in the middle so should be more discreet - just another cabinet, no?), each shelf is 17" if I remember right. They were sturdy shelves made back in the day when 3/4" plywood really was 3/4". I put a back on one of them, and made cabinet doors for a couple, a lock on one of them, sliding bolts allow access to all other doors once the key lock door is opened. There is room for seedlings on the left, right side currently has a cutout for one flood / drain tray. The cutout is in a piece of 1/2" plywood with a polyethylene cover. I can change that piece as needed - add more drain trays, change sizes or remove completely for soil. Reservoir has 27 gallon capacity, but can't be filled all the way in current configuration. There are a few CFL's keeping things alive currently. Can't justify the 600W HPS / MH conversion bulb for lettuce. The cutout shelves create shadow areas but figure they might be a good place to put lower intensity bars of red / blue / white to keep the bottoms of the plants producing.cabinet.jpg
And since everyone would rather be reading about herb other than lettuce and basil... here is a little bit of medicine :)

I like the Colombian Gold and Flo, 303 Kush I usually fall asleep on but usually enjoyable. Grape Krush works fast, BB Cheese makes me forget my name and the Nepal hybrid is just too strong for my taste. The patches help, but are too expensive.
Oh, thanks for the advice on the Vero's :)
