for a 4x4 minimum for quality led will cost a $1000 2 area 51 panels. For less you can build a diy cree cob or vero cob lights. about $600.

You wont find a quality 600w hps for less than $300 (nice hood)

Those leds on ebay and amazon are crap. There only a small hanful of companies that make quality leds and induction.

Or learn how to grow with 1600W of potato chips ...
(And get yields equal of a ~400 Watt HPS..More or less ...)

I have read alot of the cree cxa3070 amd 3590s it says white. How do I no what the color temps are and etc. I see the word bin used alot not sure what that means but Were or how do you no which ones are red and blue for a panel. I have read alot of supras stuff but all the numbers and random led talk is way above my head I run 2k hids and 3k the last few weeks of my grow any help or recommendarions would be greatly appreciated thanks

I hear only apachy is woking with nasa not sure about the mars thing... they need to get the spectrum and everything perfect before going to space. Also i hear as the led diodes are getting bigger the perfect grow led light is still a few years away.. just as todays leds are better than3-4 years ago in 3-4 years in the future the led lights may be space worthy.

Here is what I learned about LEDs from the Supra thread, simplified.
Cree makes several COBs of interest, the 3070 and 3590.
The 3070 seems to be more efficient than the 3590.
The 3070 comes in several colors such as 2700, 3000, 4000 and 5000K.
The 3000K seems to be the current rage for DIYers
3070, and all COBs come in several bins. Bins are used to classify parts according to their efficiency. Currently the AB 3070 bin is the most efficient but only available with a minimum order of twenty pieces. The Z2 bin is more common and available one at a time. The Z4 seems non existent.
Some folks use a passive cooling system, basically a slab of aluminum big enough to keep the COB cool. Others use an old cpu fan powered with a 12 volt 5 amp power supply, this is basically an old laptop charger.
The COB is powered by a Meanwell power supply, the cheap and efficient one puts out 1.5 amps.
Stay tuned, the world of lighting is moving fast.

Most everything is in the Cree 3070 days sheet, just Google it.

Thanks man how do you no or what to.look for when buying a meanweel power supply..like make sure the voltage is correct... if you bought a big power supply can you run m9re then 1 3070 off of it or better to be 1 per power supply. Also how or were do I get the blue amd reds for flower amd veg state. Thanks for taking tour time w me

If you know what current you want to run the 3070 at, find a power supply that delivers those amps.

yes you are on point with your diy idea as plants only need red, far red, blue, and uv light to grow, veg and flower, and do so very well. i have researched and personally tested thoroughly and even the best current led units have useless white, and sometimes yellow and orange leds in the panel, i think the reason for this is to increase the par level to try to sway the stubborn old timers who still believe light intensity is key rather than specific light colour.... so diy means you can give only the useful spectrum. but not everyone wants to get that technical, and the latest leds units are overcoming the penetration problems that early leds had by using lenses to focus, intensify and spread the light which is not simple technology you can do at home. so units like the lighthouse chrome series which use lenses to focus the beam angle of the led, meaning all the watts you emit are used by the plant. so you have no power wastage, and very little heat management is needed.

another consistent pro of every led unit i have seen (7 indoor grows with same cuttings every time but different led units) always give me at least 50% thicker stems, which is perfect for increased nutrient uptake and much more resinous plants throughout the life cycle ie natural pest resistance.

another consistent pro accross the board with any leds is far more density in veg. for me its a no brainer, led is the way forward, the tech is advancing rapidly and hps plasma and cfl technology has'nt progressed much in 5 years.... and nasa are using led to grow food in space... think they might be a good advocte for leds..... x
ts to get so involved as making your own led panels, plus the new wave of lenses and cob leds are difficult if not impossible to recreate at home

Is 670nm red to much or is the I think it was 630 amd 650nm better. I also need to ask anothwr question I have a titan light contropler box ran of 220v. Can I still ise this when running leds. I see 220v drivers. Those drivers will work properly correct

SDS wrote a bit about the 670nm here, he seemed to like it. Almost made me add some to my DIY build, I still might if I can find some Cree XPE photo red P5 665-670nm stars. Cutter has the P4 660-665nm on stars but shipping price turned me off. Anyone know other sources?

Also yes the drivers should run with the controller.

Looking for LED panels for a 4x8 space. Probably 2 of them, equivalent to a 600 or 1000 watt hps each
Can anyone offer any advice for my setup?

The lights I've seen posted are smaller and seem better for stealth, I am looking for something big.
