Well What ya need to know is they flower from the 12 hours dark period so if ya don't want them to revert I would just leave the light off when it turns off till the new time ya want it on get it done in 1 day rather than mess with them for a week or more!

Just my opinion though

i did 1 hour a week for like 5 weeks or so one time.
to do a 12 hour switch tho i'd imagine you'd have to start from scratch...or you'll prob hurt their feelings and you don't want your ladies mad at you for waking them up too early....anger=no more flowering

I agree with the extended night theory :)

You pose several risks by giving them an extended day cycle, especially for the 2 late in the flowering stage. Under stress they can go hermaphrodite then possibly seed on you. You might even loose a few due to lack of water and or heat cause of the extended daylight hours.

Just remember do not water you plants before the your extended night cycle!

You do not want to promote disease or drowning by having an over abundance of water just sitting there.

An added bounces is that your 2 older plants may experience an increase in resign/crystal production as they make one last ditch effort to capture some kind of pollen spore. You should cut down those 2 first thing your new day light cycle starts if timing permits...

I hope this helps

Peace Out :)

notice how no one else says: 'in my experience this works:'
'i agree' sounds like 'i'm guessing'
and if you think plants don't have a rhythm and don't know when the lights are suppose to be on(or off) IMO you're crazy

ever read that some of the strongest smell comes out an hour b4 lights go on? ever experienced it?! they aren't dumb and IMO they won't be very happy about 24 hours dark then light on the whole time they used to be asleep

Thanks for sharing your opinion... but i can read as well as the next guy for example.

Chapter 5 pg 84 Harvest Step-by-step
step 3 [you may want to give plants 24 hours of total darkness before harvest, many growers do this and say the buds are a little more resinous afterwards]

So now for a some "experience" in stead of opinions...

From personal experience i've done the extended dark period twice. Once from day to night, then back again. I will be switching once again during daylight savings to take advantage of the early night air for my air cooled lights ;)

We already know that unless you have an auto flowering strain it is possible to control when you want your plants to flower. This is done by controlling the amount of light the plants receive. Therefore the key is keeping the amount of light to no more than 12 hours to nor revert the plants to a vegatative state. A little unexpected prolonged "darkness" wont stress your plants to much but better then prolonged sunlight...

On a different note after replacing my AC unit i had a little bit of outside sunlight leak in from outside when my plants where sleeping. This went on for about 2.5 days, that little beam of light was enough to shock my plants closest to the AC unit and they grew little yellow pods which later on matures to contain pollen... those plants had 2-3 premature seeds for every 1oz of trimming the finished product :(

notice the small yellow pedal growing out from the bud... this is late in the cycle last week or so so the damage was negligible. If this happened to me earlier in the cycle and i left light bleeding in from outside i would of gotten full blown seedy buds :(

i've done 24 hr dark for more resign production with mixed results the best on my BC Big Bud from vancouver seed bank.

you should be fine if you follow my previous tips as well :)

Peace Out :bigjoint:

I have changed my light cycle i did total darkness 24hr. I have never had a problem did it twice once on two different grows. there is no difference on yield potency amount of trichs you should be fine.

Not even sure if this is the right thread to post this on. Anyways...

I switched my bud room from an 8AM -8PM lights on routine to an 8PM - 8AM lights on routine by leaving the lights off for 24 hours straight and then resetting the timers.

I found that the plants were finishing a week earlier than they usually do. The only other added factor in the bud room that could be contributing to the earlier finishing times is a couple of 20 watt reptile lights to goose my babies with a bit more UV (basic setup = hydroponics (DWC/spider drip), 2 600W HPS, 2 130W Stealth LEDs, 1 90W grow LED. Put in dark room for 3 - 7 days, then harvest, where practical).

Does anyone else have any experience with this? I have noticed no degradation of quality or quantity in the bud - just looking at trichomes, finishing off, and harvesting nice yields * a week early *.

I put the lights back to being on 8AM - 8PM every day, and am currently trying to see if that eliminates the effect. But I'm curious as to anyone else's experiences, if any.

Inquiring minds want to know...
