I want 3x 600 watt lights, but theyre too heavy for the tent

I was thinking about getting a 5x10 secret jardin dark room pro DR300W II tent with 3x 600watt lights, but it says the frame of the tent only supports up to 65lb. For those of you with a 5x10 tent, how were you able to support all the lighting and filter, etc?

So far the best idea i can think of is to build a simple support out of 4x4 posts and hang things off that instead. Any better ideas?

i dont have a tent, but ill tell you what i did in my closet. i drilled a hole in the ceiling, then ran a strong but bendable wire up into the attic. i attached the wire to a piece of wood, and laid the wood ontop of the support beams in the attic. this makes the wire able to support like 100lbs easily, even though i only have about 3lbs on it haha
anyways... im thinking maybe you could put a small hole for the wire in the ceiling of the tent, then attach it to the ceiling. now you can hang the light in the tent, with the weight of the light on the ceiling. this gives more space inside for plants(as opposed to building a support out of wood)

just an idea

Nice idea. I'd probably feel weird about putting holes in my tent though. I'll have to think about doing this vs just building the frame.

do the hole method, but you would have to probably cut a piece of strong pvc plastic or leather about 4 x 4 inches and stitch it in to the tent and then make the holes through that and try to keep them as small as the thickness of the chain to stop any ripping or fraying of the tent fabric, once you have your chain supports going through the hole, you can then just seal around the hole in the plastic or leather where the chain goes through with aluminium gas tape on the inside and coloured duct tape on the outside to match the colour of your tent, once you have finished with your tent and you want to sell it, you can tell the new buyer the huge advantage in having the holes in the roof of the tent, wink wink. if i was putting the tent in a barn or farm building with a very high roof/ceiling then you would have to go with the frame which will just get in your way believe me after you build it you will wish you did it the easy way. if you cant stitch or sew get your mom to do it tell her its a himalayan mountain tent and you need the holes for poles to support your 3 hammocks for you and two mates as your going camping or some shit like that and you need to sleep off the snow covered ground she will do a good job of the stitching. lay your tent floor down on the floor in the room where you want it stretched out to full size and mark around the base, remove the tent and work out roughly where about inside you want the lights, hang your chains then put up your tent in its permanent position and where the chains touch the roof of the tent mark the hole marks making sure the chains are straight (Doh i know you aint thick) and then get her to stitch the pvc plastic/leather in.

Yeah I climbed up in the attic, drilled a hole out, hung a 2x4 on the rafters and ran a 8" eyelet bolt through them both and fastened with a big washer and nut. No worries here, hanging a 3.5x3.5' reflector housing three 400w's.

thats a great idea a sort of trapeze pole with 2 chains on and three lights hanging from the steel/aluminium pole.

Well, i'm out of luck with the attic idea. I went up into my attic and realized that the area above my room is completely inaccessible. It's like the roof slopes down right before that room. It's weird though, because the room still has an AC vent in the ceiling, so there must be a space above it. Now i'm thinking of getting something like this and putting it inside my tent. You can customize the length of the top depending on the size of 2x4 used:



What do you guys think?

i think thats kinda cool. but if i were to make a thing like that, id make it outside the tent, and run the chains thru the top. unless the space isnt much of an issue

my attic is like that above my closet too. right above my light, theres only about a foot of space. heres what i did:

the entrance to the attic happens to be about 5 feet away from my closet, but u could do this if yours is different.
i drilled the hole in the ceiling, then bent the wire in sort of a half-moon shape. i pushed it up into the hole, in a way the made the end up in the attic travel away from the small space(towards the attic entrance). when it was far enough for me to reach, i went up in the attic and tied the wire to the piece of wood. i layed the wood on the studs in the attic. then went down in the closet and pulled on the wire. this made the piece of wood go to where i needed it, and still ontop of the studs

dont be silly, who says you have to have a loft to hang lights from a ceiling, ok lets start by assuming your floor and ceiling joists run front to back of house (not side to side) that is the normal set up front wall to back, and lets assume you have not bought an electric joist finder, if you get an electric screwdriver and large sharp screw you can screw in to the ceiling looking for joists start at the side of the room there is always a joist right beside a wall, when your screw goes in if you miss the screw will not start to get tight so remove it and move sideways away from the wall an inch, and screw it in there, keep going until the screw gets tight in a joist and mark it, then move 18 inches over as they are usually 18 inches or 450mm apart make sure you are not just catching the very edge of a joist by moving the screw a little sideways and keep repeating until you know where the centre of the joist is they are usually 50mm to 100mm wide and 100mm to 200mm high these will support you, your lights, your floor and your kids swing, your punch bag, and set of hanging scales to weigh your weed. dont worry about little holes in your ceiling these can be filled with filler and a wall scraper and repainted anytime.

what type of hoods are you using? cause i have used 2 1000s in big kahuna hoods and a very heavy inline fan on top of them. this was a ton of weight and it had no problems.
