still a noob
always used AN
wanna try somthing else

read a lot of experienced ppl use jacks.
so with AN you have to mix like 12 different substances in water and adjust ppm, but the ph adjusts itself (usually). The feeding schedule is easy too follow, but its expensive. also with AN they always go yellow in flower.

now can someone explain how you would use jacks classic with sunshine #4 and tap water? what else would you need?

anyway, anyone with some insight for me +rep :D
thanks for looking.

i ve always looking for jacks classic 20-20-20 but its not sell in my area...since its cheaper to buy RO water at the giant store like walmart or food 4 less for refill at 1 bucks give or take...it will help the root to eat the nutrient more easily and vital to plant s healthy...but tap water have good traces of element as well...i always like this, i will have tap water sitting with open lid for 24 hours before i water the plant....and if i plan to give my plants a nutes then i ll use RO water. and not hurt to get cal-mag too :) its my exprience....its works great for me. its important to have pH meter tester with ya, but you know what you re doing since you used with AN :)

You would need some dolomite or garden lime to add to the SS#4, or any peat based mix for that matter. It keeps the pH in the proper range and provides cal/mag. Cost ~$5 for a 40lb bag at Lowes or HD. That's it, you're GTG.

Jacks has no Cal or Mag in it on purpose. It is designed to be used on soils that have the added lime and the cal/mag they contain and tap water which also has some. This prevents lockout.

You may need to add some perlite to the SS#4 for improved drainage and areation, but that's a different issue. I'd recommend it though.

But all you really need for the SS#4+tap water is the lime. I have close to 40 years experience using Jack's. It's good stuff.

i grow in botanicare redi-gro moisture formula with jacks and tap water. in veg i use 1/2 tsp 20-20-20 per gallon in my reservoir along with 1 tsp per gallon of Epsom salts. in flower I use 3/4 tsp blossom booster per gallon of water, (I have been adjusting this dosage I'm currently trying 1 tsp per gallon). My father has used jacks for 30 years and swears by it; he uses 1/2 tsp 20-20-20 per gallon in veg and 1/2 tsp Blossom Booster per gallon in flower. I also use a couple of supplements in flower; Liquid Karma at 5ml per gallon, and Sweet at 10ml per gallon.

I would still add the 2tbl/gallon of mix, or 1cup/cf of mix. SS#4 has some lime in it, just not enough. Best if you add it to the mix before use.

AFA the Dyna-Gro, I use several of their products (Pro Tekt and K-L-N mainly), but their nutes are designed for hydro and I much prefer Jacks in a mix like yours. That's what Jacks was designed for and I have used both. Still use DG, just not for container mixes.

If you go on the Jack's website, you can order the *Dynamic Duo* (the 20-20-20 and 10-30-20) as a package for pretty cheap. That's all you will need AFA nutes go.

jacks is very simple good nutes to use my friend uses that in his soil grows with great success i would take the label and use half of the rec and see where your plants are after that there is no one size fits all feed schedule

If you want to see killer plants grown with Jacks, check out Riddleme's threads. Why pay big money to the Cannabis market when in reality most of these companies buy their lot from bulk commercial horticulture. It's then tailored to be Cannabis specific but Jacks will also custom blend your desired ratios.

These were all grown with J.R peters
5-12-26 for veg and 10-30-20 for flower :)
Not soil but just showing they work great in hydro as well.

I also started out growing with AN, botanicare, flora etc... After doing side by side experiments with 5 different nutrients all the same strain. They all pretty much did the same thing. Except the J.R did hold green leafs all the way through flowering (except on 12 weeks sativas some went yellow).
And J.R is 1/6 of the price ;)

Hey guys what do you think of this Skunk Haze ? It's two weeks old....

It's in a cup of Pro-Mix BX and perlite....

Is it OK to start feeding it Jack's ? Or is it too early ?

I was thinking if starting out with 1/4 of a dose....then work my way up in 1/8 incremenets.....This of course when it's appropriate to start giving it nutes.....

Or do I wait maybe till it gets transplanted into it's next pot ?

thanks +rep awaits :peace:

Sure, I do.

I've found out that the pelletized I have is actually powdered dolomite in a fast dissolving binder, not big chunks of lime. The first watering releases the powder and you're GTG.

Yes, mix it in.

Actually, it would be best if you added the lime to all your mix, moisten it (not wet) and let it get working. Be GTG when transplant time comes. A $10 30 gallon trash can from HD makes a good storage container for after mixing.
