Don't know where you live, but here in SoCal, we have to consider chill hours to grow either Apples or Peaches, especially near the coast. Chill hours are calculated in a few different ways, here's a link that explains some;

If you live where it gets fairly cold in winter, you'll probably have no trouble growing most varieties (unless it's too cold, then the peaches won't be too happy), but if it's warm where you are, the number of varieties you can grow is smaller.
