closet, garage, warehouse? light gets dispersed very easily so it's important to know the environmental. Additionally, it depends how tall you let them get. With LED's and Fluro's you always want to have them closer than any HID lighting. Furthermore, LED will give off a variety of colors regardless of which brand you buy but i believe they are just like HPS and MH in that they can be used throughout the entire cycle.

Have you even used an LED before? Closer than HID? I own 2 LEDs which aren't even the most powerful ones available today, and anything closer than 20" to the canopy in flowering, the leaves gets damaged. Other brand LEDs with wider angle lenses you can get them a little closer. I had a Blackstar LED, and I kept that at 10" above the canopy. But that was a 130 watt light with 90 and 120 degree lenses. A 300 watt LED with 60 and 90 degree lenses at 10" from canopy will fry most plants.

With fluoros, yes you want them as close as possible. With LEDs, if they are cheap China crap with low power LEDs in them, sure, those can be put closer to the plants. If they are decent LEDs with decent power, if the light is too close, "bleaching" can occur. Damages the leaves beyond them being usable for chlorophyll production.

What's your budget like, and how big of an area do you need to illuminate?

I need to know the best led light to use for both stages of plant growth and strong enough for two plants 3 tops.
