I assume because that's their goal.
I should have tied that together better.

If SF are in fact Mars, why are they such a vastly superior panel, which, to date, has been way beyond Mars interests or ability. Now, IF Mars wanted to sell an upscale product wouldn't they have put the SF MSRP at a premium?

Just sayin, the logic just isn't there

It’s not that hard to see companies under various names / identities..... Ford / Lincoln , Chevrolet / GMC , Walmart / Sams club , etc.

Matter of fact UNIT FARM had the exact same “ bar “ light as Mars hydro. You can’t really shame a company trying to cover as many
options to sell product ... capitalism at its finest . There are “ house brands ” sold in many major retail stores . Cheap shit is a given .
Much easier to fulfill the cheap options as many still buy them ..... look at amazon at how many blurple panels are offered , and if look close enough.... many are knockoffs of each other ( galaxy hydro, other no name ) .

Lexus is made by Toyota . Better product from different division but still Toyota. It’s up to the grower to research where their money will be best spent , spider farmer has some popularity lately , so it must at least perform better than typical Mars offerings. I started long ago with their bullshit “ white panel “ classics , epistar monos and all . Pink fucking hues. Burned out IR , burned strings . I gutted one for a project .... 80% efficient ( ish ) plastic drivers , sleeve bearing ( computer ) fans , fake UL certs , inferior heatsinks , sloppy TIM paste , wonky fit and finish , solder mask , on and on. Even cheap HID systems can show some corner cutting. Seriously .

Spider farmer has this weird IP 65 rating from just a thick glue type spray formed over their leds . Not sure why that’s necessary as I read some units show particulates trapped in the clear coat . QC staff must have been on lunch. Yet growers crow about Foliar protection for exposed leds .... “ who fucking sprays their lights with liquid ? “ ... I could never figure out why that’s a thing. Many run
boards , strips , cobs and pucks without this . I never had to worry about It with mine. But spider is selling rigs at or near a dollar per watt so thats a good thing. If they pay for themselves in “ better “ cannabis at end harvest , then you got your money’s worth.

the 'liquid' is silicone, applied to protect diodes/board from humidity/moisture

still profitable/old stock. whats the big deal, man? why does it matter?

to me personally, it doesn't matter at all.

I was never ignorant enough to buy their crap lights (though I paid $360 for an original blurple ufo 90 back in 2012-13), but plenty of others did and reported the ridiculously high poor quality issues that Mars NEVER helped resolve. You can find YTVs showing them being destroyed by frustrated buyers.

So, my intent is to make ignorant growers aware, in hopes they don't make the same mistakes, OR, buying from a company with a horrendous track record of customer service caused by poor QC and poor parts selection. There are plenty of good value options available

Peace out
