Hey I've got this room basically built, I have a flowering room setup else where with a 1000watt light were i'll be doing SOG on a 4x4 eb&flow tray. So in this room, which top half is 40"W x 25"D x 55"H, I'm planning on having 3 different mother plants. And in their same tray i was planning on putting my healthiest clones for a week or two. So hopefully about 6-10 clones at a time next to the 3 mothers. I have been thinking about using CFLs but recently read that envirolights would be better. I guess flourescents are the weakest? For the amount of plants and space can someone help me out with which is the best and what size to get? Thanks so much!

PS. I'm propagating my seeds right now so i need to move on this quick.

I pretty much have any option. I havn't decided on which way to go. I was under the impression i could do better with an envirolight or a bunch of CFL's. Looks like your a veteran, if you could choose which way would you go?

hehehe im not so veteran man lol  well i veg my mothers and clones with 4 x 2ft fluro tubes and im preatty satisfyed. but i've seen great results with those envirolights that ur talkin about. and with cfls too....so its ur decision .... jus make sure the lights are high in blue spectrum for veg.

Depending on your ventilation why not go with HPS, a 400 watt HPS would do wonders for that grow and I've read many a good thing with 150 watt HPS (used one for a bit myself, and it did appear to make things nicer while waiting on my 400watter) why not take a few 150 watt HPS and put them in there. If you are worried about power consumption try turning off your computer - chances are it draws at least 400w most likely somewhere between 500-800 watts not counting your monitor and extra periphrials.

DAMN! I had no idea a computer could draw that much power. No wonder my electricity bill is so high, i got 3 roommates and they ALL have desktops that are left on 24/7. I definetly gonna address that. Thanks so much. I actually have a 400 watt light. Not sure if its an HPS or a MH, is there a way i can find out? Tell me its as easy as reading it off the bulb and i'll slap myself. Attached is the sketch of the setup. I should expect it to get hot with a 400watt right? It is gonna be a closed cabinet. I was planning on having some ventilation but perhaps i should prepare for more. What do you think?

for vegging i bought a cheap 1000W mh light. i think you could get away with 400W or 600W

Just cause i'm concerned about my electricity bill i think i'll go with a 400watt. Plus i have one already! So i guess the fact that its red spectrum is ok? Or can i buy a blue spectrum blub for this same hood and ballast?

Computers don't actually use that much electricity as devilwacause says. You'd have to have a loaded quad core with a high end video card and be in the middle of running a demanding game to hit 500-800w real word. Computers spend most of their life on idle or using low cpu and video power, and most don't draw anywhere near those numbers.

You don't need to spend 400w on veg. A few flouro's will do. You have at least 8 week flowering cycles and with a 400w light for veg your clones and mothers will just grow too fast, faster than you need per cycle to have them ready, and you'll have to either start clones later or hit them with a weedwhacker before flowering because they'll be too big by the time flowering is done.

It's overkill and wasteful...

Yes they have hps lights that have more of a blue spectrum to them such as hortilux and grolux bulbs
