If I 12/12 from seed...

  • Is it okay to do so under CFL's until they show signs of sex, then transfer to a 400w HPS room/cabinet?

  • how much would each bag seed plant produce on average without co2?

  • what is the time frame between seed and harvest?

  • how tall will the plants get?

  • will it perform a top cola method on its own or will I have to prune, snip the bottom, etc?

Okay im using the same method for my particular grow now. So I'll try to answer bullet by bullet.

1. I would assume that you could...In fact it may work to your advantage. I put my seeds directly under my 400 watter and I had to hand it about 40 inches above the plants. I've since moved it down, but If I started off with CFL's I could have hung the lights alot lower. Although once they get acclimated to the HPS they fucking grow well...Like weeds...lol

2. Ummmm...Im thinking you could pull and OZ per plant...depending on your setup. If you aren't going to use CO2 make sure your designated area has some decent air circulation. Im looking to pull anywhere from 10-12 grams per plant.

3. You have to remember your plants are still going to start off in a vegative state. It also depends on what strain you're using. My plants vegged for about 14-16 days, and now they're starting to flower. I'm on day 22 now. With an expected 6-8 weeks of extended flowering. So you're still going to be looking at 8-10 weeks total. YOu have to remember you're not going to gain much time with this method. Edit: You will...but not as much as one would think.

4. My plants average about 10-12 inches now. Im expecting them to put on another 6 inches...maybe. So you should end up with plants under 2 feet.

5. With this method I wouldn't suggest pruning. Just let em grow. You want all the energy to be put into the buds. With them being so small any uneccesary stress could mess with them more than what you intended.

6.Be careful not to overwater or over nute them. You're not dealing with a 4 foot monster. You need to be very aware of feeding schedules. People have the tendency to smother there plants with love. With this method it could severely affect your yield.

Note...Im not an expert or anything...so Im sure you'll get different input from different people. This is what I do, and it seems to be working thus far.

Also check out this thread...it's alot of discussion on the subject in here.

thanx alot dude! the main reason why i want to do this method is because I am mainly using bagseed. I want to practice having 2 seperate cabinets going both on a 12/12 schedule consistantly harvest. The CFL cabinet is 3 shelves with lots of seedlings from bagseed and will either trash or transfer 2 400w HPS at fist signs of sex. Will definitely love to see pics of your set-up and/or you old ladies. Appreciate your reply though!

im running 12/12 from seed at the moment in ultimate pro-mix organic under a 600w hps. depending on my strain i will usually pull about 1/2 to 1 ounce off each without co2 and they will get anywhere from 1 foot to 1 1/2 feet depending on if im growing indica or sativa. mine will normally finish off at about 12 to 14 weeks from breaking the soil. sativa plants will take a bit longer. i try not to cut my plants ever, if i do anything ill LST (but its not recommended) some plants will simply grow one single cola (mostly indica) some plants will branch 12/12 from seed (mostly sativa) it all depends on your strain that your growing. if you have vertical space for growth you might be better off simply vegging under the cfls then flowering under your hps. you'll end up using less seeds. if your looking for a quick crop 12/12 from seed isnt the way. it'll still take the same ammount of time either way. its not a bad method but if your looking to get a nice yeild you better have more than a couple fems 12/12 from seed. some people do actually pull a gram per watt with this system but it does take alot of practice not to mention a pretty large seed collection. its all about trial and error. ive been growing for years and im still in trial and error somewhat, im trying to find my perfect strain. ive grown alot of em. right now im growin out this local strain called urban legend its 50/50 sativa/indica im not sure whats in it but i grew it outside this last season and i have to say i liked it more than the strains i purchased from bcseedking.com and marijuana-seeds.nl. its some DANK. its very tangy with a happy high. anythings possible you just have to go through the trial and error untill you find your nitch. peace.

These 2 plants are 12/12 from seed, I am using all CFLs (450w+-) and I will tell you what they yield in about 2 months. The bushy one was topped twice to create 4 colas, as you can see it exploded in every direction. The tall one has not been touched, it is au natural!!.

They took 30 days to show sex. Both were luckily fems in my situation

mine are normally 6 inches when they show sex but i usually grow 50/50 indica/sativa. with more sativa they probably would grow differently/taller. peace.
