If you grow in soil get a book in soil growing. Most canabis stuff is just hype, don't be fooled. If it will grow tomatoes, it will grow weed.

So since most good soils I know of are actually made of peat, coco, etc, then if one wanted to grow in actual soil, what would they do if the surrounding soil is very shity/clay like? Are any good store bought soils actually soil? Googling now lol.

Also out of curiosity, what nutes do you use? I see a lot of people starting to use MAXSEA

First off, your welcome. It is my honor to share what I know, even tho I still have a lot to learn.

Let me start by saying that I am not a soil grower. I'm soilless, but I do know a thing or two.

Most soil mixes that are sold commercially and of decent quality often contain peat or coco as as amendments but the base is soil (dirt). Perlite and or vermiculite are often seen in bagged soils as well. These things are added to the soil to lighten or loosen it up to prevent compaction and improve aeration and drainage. I mix roughly 50% perlite to my pro-mix for that very reason. I grow strictly indoors so surrounding soil is something I haven't had to deal with. I would assume that it should have the same qualities needed anywhere else, good drainage, achievable by using petlite and other ammendments to make it drain and a proper N-P-K. Check our outdoor forum for that.

You ask about any good store bought soils, anything good enough for veggies will work. All soils will "run outta steam" so to speak so be prepaird to supplement later in the plants life.

My nutes? Dyna-Gro.
Simple, cheap, complete, effective.
I tried so many cannabis specific nute lines with the same results that I get now. It's just a plant. I learned that the hard way, ($$$), but now I know.

You can add dolo lime to an existing pot. Just top dress it and water it in. It takes a couple weeks to begin buffering the soil. Next time mix it in before planting. I use a cup of dolo lime in 5 gallon pots. I grow in sunshine #4, very similar to promix. I also add a small amount of calmag every other watering. I no longer pH anything and have had no problems with pH for years.

Thank you both very much for the info and the help I appreciate it! I bought some lime today and will be mixing it in next time I pot up! Ill give the top dress a shot too, do I just top dress the one time?

I mix it in the soil and top dress once when I flip to flower. So between those two things and a small amount of calmag once a week I have no problems and don't pH my water, which comes out of the tap at 7.4. If you have no dolo lime in the soil I would top dress a tablespoon per gallon of soil and water it in. Repeat in two to three weeks. That should get you through an 8 week flower.
