nobody said under 12/12. and i answered you second question already are you DENSE?
If you take regular seeds, and put them under 12/12, they FLOWER - just like an auto.

And I didn't ask a question, I made a point, that it's fucking stupid to start with autos, unless you can't work a timer or are putting them outdoors.

Thank you newgrowbox for the co2 recipe, immaking that for sure.

im probably gonna do soil for my first grow

if you do soil, use BIG pots, with plenty of drain holes, put at least 1" of railway gravel or volcanic pumice stone in the bottom.
to keep the bottom of the pot out of your runoff, a dishpan with 1" of gravel on the bottom, and a drain tube in the bottom corner leading to a milk jug or other small mouthed, wide bottomed vessel is best.
catch the runoff and dump it (dont use it again, it will contain salt and shit)
if your pot sits in wetness you get rootrot, if you have too much water sittin about youll get humidity, then mould and budrot.
water only when you can poke a finger in the dirt without feeling dampness.
use fertilizers at 1/4 the rate recomended by the package and increase it slowly.
clay/terracotta pots are always better than plastic.
if your soil starts to smell bad, repot your pot with fresh dirt immediately.

heres how ya do that:

1) do not water for at least 24 hours before repotting! (otherwise youll be wallowing in mud)
2) lay out a tarp, or dropcloth in a big area! (youll want to do this inside, away from prying eyes)
3) grab the main stem firmly with one hand and the pot-bottom with the other, tip the pot and plant on their side on the tarp, and drag the plant out of the pot
4) firmly massage the dirt and muck out of the roots from the bottom of the rootball upwards. catch it all on the tarp
5) use a toilet bowl brush (i have one JUST FOR MY GARDEN!) to clean out the pot, and add more gravel (dont use the old gravel again but save it) and a few inches of fresh soil
6) stick your plant in the pot and gently pack more fresh soil around the roots, not too tight, and fill to 1/2 inch below the top of the pot. leaving a fist sized hole in one side of the dirt (youll see)
7) place an open sandwich bag (or similar) in the fist sized hole, and pour in dirt (pack it snug!) then fill the dirt-bag with water till it almost comes out the top into your main soil area.
8) use a knitting needle, piece of a coat hanger, or a chopstick to poke a hole in the dirtbag from above at an angle. lightly water the main soil area regularly but keep the dirtbag very wet for a week. you should NOT see runoff !
9) when the plant has recovered and the soil is uniformly moist but not wet, pull out the dirtbag and dispose of it. now your plant will be happy, and you wont need to fertilize for a month or more

Cleanup: take the tarp and it's contents to the lawn, hose the soil into the lawn, but save to gravel. put it in a shallow pan and let it sit in the sun for a few days, then you can use it again.

and also, i too will try that yeast culture. it's such a simple and obvious solution, it could only be produced from a true genius.

Poly, and tibberous, keep it civil... (figured I'd say something before it got to the "look here, motherfucker..." parts... :blsmoke: )
Though I have to agree with tibberous, Auto's are a near useless concept to me in an indoor grow. The only argument I've heard for auto's is if you want a strain you could spread outdoors like wildfire. Which, tbh, living in a non legal state sounds like a badass idea, and I'm thinking about it. But for indoors, their is literally no advantage, if your worried about time, you can 12/12 from seed like Tibb said, not to mention it will only take 12hrs light a day, as oppossed to the auto which will need light for 20-22 hrs a day, therefore higher electric bill, with no extra yield to show for it. A quick flowering photoperiod plant can be done as fast or faster then its auto couterpart with better quality and use of less light.
Did I mention I started my first grow with auto's?! :wall:

BS no need for expensive stuff to grow , currently flowering 3 plants about 2.5 with less then 80w of cfl ( like 30 bucks in light) but then currently upgrading and made my own grow room, almost done and so far have spent 40 bucks mosty on the lights

yes the co2 recipe is easy to use and easy to remember, if you fucked up the quantities it would probably still work. yeast feeds on sugar and produces co2 im not sure why baking soda but its in the recipe so i put it in? maybe its for ph

The reason i prefer hydro is that i can dump my water down the drain, whereas soil takes disposing of.
^and that's already a lot of work(depending on the size of your hydro setup(s)) in my opinion... jeez I can only imagine what a pain in the ass it would be lugging around all that dirt!

if you looking at a way to obtain some money than i would look at mushrooms they grow fast and are pretty easy. you could buy weed then or put more to your grow. i live somewhat in south texas more concider it central but moving from dallas its pretty south. they have killer bud here. you should come up here

i lso made my grow box for my plants from a old nightstand i actually found someone wasa trying to trash but i put it back together and its fine. real heavy tho but in all i spent about 70-100 dollars so far and have harvested two plants

dirt isnt too bad. unless you have like 5 gallon pots. that would be a bitch to throw out. unless you compost your soil.

I just grow in hydro applications 'cause the growth rate and the ability to control the amount of nutes you're adding vs. some cheaper brands of soil. MG's water released nutes kill me

Shit... If you look lke the avatar you got goin on, I would be your sugar daddy and alls I can say you would neer have to worry about smoke or money again....

Updated.

I did my unemployment application and it seems like I'm getting approved. Yay : )

After reading up and lurking on this forum I think I'm gonna go ahead and buy A Hps/MH grow system since I don't have to worry about money as my main priority.

Ohh and buy some seeds from Attitude something fruity and potent thats easy to grow. Any suggestions? It's a closet grow.
First off congrats on getting your bennies approved! You'll know for sure when the state of Texas starts sending you a bunch of letters in the mail all at once (should be about a week).

Second, seeds. Just make sure it's anything that's mostly Indica dominant. Definitely stay away from Sativas and Hazes. Also, don't get caught up in the hype, that being the whole OG Kush craze going on right now. Kush is not too friendly to grow and it's generally a bad yielder.

After a lot of research I went with AK-47 from Serious Seeds for my first grow(s). You can't go wrong with that company. Medicine Man(White Rhino) and Ortega(Northern Lights) from Mr. Nice Seeds would also be good choices. I'm currently starting a pack of Arctic Fallout (Chem '91) from House of Funk and ten out of ten just sprouted, so I'd venture to say take a look at their offerings as well.

Thanks JJ, yea I have to go to some orientation tomorrow. Yay. They told me I can go to school and still collect. Finally. I can stay stress free for a widdle bit : )

Yea I wanted to with something short and fruity but now that Im investing on the lights I might as welm go with a big fruity yielder. Also aestheticlly pleasing, I am a girl and I like pretty colors. ; )

People always claim that hydro is more exp. but really depends on which route you take. a 4 plant dwc can but setup for roughly 75$(not including lights, and setup costs)
3$ "homer"buckets from home depot
4 outlet airpump from petco(only reason i prefer the petco ones is they come with tubing and aircontrols.) 30$
8 4 inch airstones ~ 15$
10$ bag of hydro pellets.
4 netpots 5$

obviously prices will vary for the rest of the setup. one thing thats nice about dwc. its damn near impossible to over water.
hope it helps and im sorry about your job.

Hydro is more expensive.

You left out a ton of expensive must have items & if your doing a dwc you sure as hell better have a spare pump on hand incase the main pump goes down,if the store is closed or no extra cash on hand plants are dying in 24 hours.

Extra pump =$30.

Ph meter = $30 & that is for a non reliable peice of crap.

Ph up = $10
Ph down =$10
Reference solution 4.0 = $8
Reference solution 7.0 = $8

Ppm/ec meter = $40
1382.Reference solution =$8.

Both ppm meter & calibration solution are optional but highly reccomended.

Fertilizer/nutes,in soil a $5 bill will get ya all the nutes you need for several grows, nothing is available that cheap for hydroponics.

Fertilizer.

General Hydro 2 part system.

Part 1 = $15
Part 2 = $15

Thats well over $100 additional dollars for must have items to just get started,a ppm/ec meter is highly usefull & reccomended, add another $40 for a cheapy,im sure lemon juice for ph down & baking soda for ph up can be substituted but not without issues affecting system performance & quality, baking soda isnt stable enough & allows ph to fluctuate, lemon juice is organic & as with all organic additives will turn a rez or bucket into a foul smelling swamp.

Soil costs are $50 max .
Fertilizer costs $10.
Plant pots free or $3 each.
Ph meters or chemicals are not needed with soil.

Soil is several hundred dollars cheaper,no matter how cheaply you build a dwc, soil is even cheaper than hempy buckets.

hey so congrats on the un-employment..i just got my disability after 4 years of fighting the system but they owe me 4 1/2 yrs of back pay.. hell yeah..so i use all diy materials except my medium and nutes i buy those.. you can make several types of hydro/airo/dwc/pdq/asap/,,lolyou get my point its all up to your preferences on how much you want to do with and for your baby girls... i made a airo unit for less than $30 from walmart.. big tote $5.97. air pump $6.99.,stone $4.99 ,hose $3.99, plastic cups for pots that i drill holes in to drain and airate. $5.99..,just cut holes the size of the cups ,drill holes in the bottom and lower sides of the cups and one small hole on the top side of the tote to ut your air hose through to hook up a large air stone and fill untill your about 1 inch from the bottom of the cups, plant roots deep in the cups so they dont dry out.. and you on your way to a great CHEAP airo set-up
KEEP ON GROWIN

Got a car? Any chance of raising seedlings indoor then planting out in the bush ,just in time for the summer season. Get a shovel ,nutes ,lime, water crystals ,mulch etc. prepare the holes now. Tell no one. You will harvest a lot more and it will smoke better than indoor. And much less risk for you. Get some cash out of it then start a proper indoor grow with the works ,not a half assed cheap set up.
