I found one of these stink bugs on my plants:

It was just chilling on one of my leaves and it looked like he was just enjoying the bright light. Do they do anything bad to marijuana though?

crap... i guess I shouldn't have killed him. Well we're currently being swarmed by them here so I'm sure that won't be the last I see. I've found hundreds in my house due to a major infestation throughout numerous US states.

The reason I asked was because they are responsible for destroying numerous crops in the area. Corn, soy beans, peaches, apples etc.... The problem is they are dumb and end up dieing in the crops and produce a foul smell which ends up making the food taste nasty.

Hmm, was not aware of this. I have found them with budworms between their pinchers so I just assumed they were good. I didn't know they consumed plant matter? Or if they're just carnivours.

Stink bugs come in two flavors; carnivorous and herbivorous. The carnivorous type is great to have around but the herbivorous types are not, they eat your plants. It's hard to tell them apart unless you find one eating another insect. However, if you find one sitting on your plant and it seems to chilling out and not doing anything, chances are your plant is being eaten. All stink bugs are sucking insects with a straw like mouth. They live on the juice of your plants and very few live on other insects. If there has been crop damage in your area caused by stink bugs chances are the one you found was/is chowing down on your plant. Hope this helps ----LongTimeToker-------

Yeah, one11 I'm afraid is not speaking from experience. I'm dealing with a stink bug problem right now. For some reason the species just appeared in my area, and until I hunted them all down they were causing some serious problems for my indoor crops, besides just plaguing the fuck out of our house in the middle of winter. I'm looking for a solution for them on the long-term, but I've ended it for now by sticking all the bastards to a piece of duct tape and hanging that on the wall of my grow room as warning to any ambitious stink bugs nearby.

Grower4God Do not leave those bugs in ur grow room on duct tape. I have read that the bugs dead or a live leave a sent that attracts more of them to that area, similar to how ants leave a trail of pheromones to areas of food or shelter to attract others. Also try to remove them with the duct tape then kill them outside or something just away from your grow room. They are almost impossible to get rid of. I just got a new roof and soffits around the entire house and I still find a few in my room every now and then. Can never tell if they actually are eating my plants but I assume so since they do just chill on a leaf. I hate these bugs I have dealt with thousands of them at work and in my own home. I think the one we have here is the brown marmorated stink bug.

Stink bugs dont like Marigolds and mint. Grow mint at the bottom of your room, its aroma will deter them and is a culinary delight.

its more likely you found an aphid, a natural cannabis pest. looks alot like the bug u posted too. spinosad is reccomended to control an aphid problem. aphids are known to come included in roots organic soil aswell.. good luck.

i have found that the best way to get rid of them is to grab them in toilet paper and flush them...dont squish them, as previously stated they give off hormones that attract more when they are scared or die...if u grab them up softly in the tissue and flush them u wont have any problems

Hahahaha aphid? I'm sorry but you must never have seen one and are just going on forum spread misconception. Aphids are tiny. And they grow wings they look like plump gnats. Wooly aphids do not consume marinuana, and these stink-bugs are about half an inch wide. If I saw an aphid that large I'd bite a bullet, but no, simple Japanese stink bugs becoming an invasive species in michigan. Soap seems to destroy them, then clean they're remains from your room and you're good homie

Also 5 drops or so of rosemary, and 2 drops apiece of cloe, eucalyptus, and lavender mixed into 2oz of soap onto a gallon of ro wanted dehydrated and smothers everything you contact it with hope it helps, good vibes

Old link, but I'll reply anyways. Our area is infested with this type of stink bug. Foreign nasties they are. They invaded the North East Coast I think like 50 years ago and are working their way westward. They will attack your plants by sucking plant juices, they seek out warm areas, and they carry plant diseases. When they puncture your plant to suck, they they may inject a disease. Like a viral fungus. Remove them immediately, flush them or throw them outside if you're a Buddhist. I flush them. They're the only insect I know that has a two-year life cycle. They hibernate in the winter and will awaken from their slumber to seek warmth (and your plants). Don't keep their dead bodies in your room, either. Since they live two years, the worst plague of them runs in cycles of two years. You're more likely to have them in great numbers invading your home if you are near a lot of trees. I just found one of the little buggers hiding under a leaf. I find them in my room every winter and look for them every day. No need to go after them with spraying substances, just remove them manually with toilet paper, do it gently, and examine your plants carefully. Using herb concoctions to kill them is not advised because then you'll have a diseased dead insect in your room that you can't see. You won't see them in any numbers, just strays once in a while. I don't spray my plants with anything. Not even water. That can cause fungus.
