Those are the only courses of action you percieve in my opinion. I think the song's message was much more than that. Do you vote? Do you think government is necessary? Do you consider yourself a truly civilized being? I can see you like to put a label on things. John Lennon imagined a world where people truly cared about each other & that fairness was widespread...do you?
Fairness is wide spread, it's called a meritocracy, or capitalism. Everyone is judged on their merits, and is able to get more (or less) based on those.

Of course, there are a few other factors, like friends, and there are some that routinely lie, and enslave others for their own benefit (government).

Life is very fair, you get what you are willing to get off your butt to earn.

I don't see what could be any fairer than that.

To argue that some one should be given something, because if they aren't they'll starve is absurd.

Should wages be such that it is possible to at least survive on the income from them, yes.

But more important would be for government to stop inflating the money supply.

Of course, if government did that, it would have to admit that excluding the effects of inflation our economy has grown much more slowly since the Federal Reserve was created, than before, with the difference being 77x before and only 17x afterwords.

With the exception of of couple individuals in this thread including the person who started it none of you especially you TBT have the slightest idea of the meaning of what John Lennon was saying. Maybe you like material girl by Madonna? How dare you speak that way about one of the most caring people in history. He had problems like all of us, but he cared that's what matters. I'm disappointed in you TBT!
Caring is all fine and good but accomplishes nothing. I may care if a car hits you in the crosswalk, but unless you move out of the way, you're gonna get creamed.

Name calling, eh? Tell me, what was the point outside the one on top of your head.
The point was to point out your stupidity in missing the point of my post and your idiotic personal attack.

I think lennon was trying to imagine a perfect world (obviously) and perhaps he was tryin to get everyone to broaden thier perspectives and open their minds. seeing as how he was on lsd more often than not, his view was very very open, open to anything. so he wrote a song about it. and i agree... there are far too many close-minded persons out there. like the government

^^^

As soon as we have perfect people, we can have a perfect world ... as long as Mother Nature cooperates, that is.

Could you define perfect? I think when our egos become a little less important maybe we can take a step in the direction Lennon was in my opinion refering to. I would be willing to bet that he didn't consider anything perfect...I know I don't. Perfect in my opinion is simply an illusion of perception...it dosen't exist.

TBT I don't think we are seeing eye to eye & that's cool...I'm sure we'll debate something else sometime!

^^^ Define perfect? Jesus Christ.

Other than Jesus Christ, there has been no perfect human. Therefore, Lennon's utterings are nothing but pie in the sky. Like I said, nice words, but until human nature changes, they are just nice words.

If u dont have to fight for anything then where is the value of it. Having eevrything givin to you only causes you to not apprectate it. A world with no war means a world with nothing worth fighting for.

:: pukes guts out ::

Let's see, no borders, no countries, that means we get over ran by a bunch of impoverished, filthy diseased mexicans.

Then if there are no nations, there are no national governments, which means when those same improverished filthy, diseased Mexicans start stealing from the rest of us, there is going to be very little that we can do.

As far as there being nothing to kill or die for, I can only be happy that Lennon got shot. The very stupidity of the assumption that there would be nothing worth killing or dying for is stupid, in and of itself.

The fool is advocating Anarchy, and then saying that we shouldn't kill the thieves and murderers that immediately appear to take advantage of the system.

To think that this system could exist with out it being corrupted, and destroyed once people realize there are no laws, rules of behavior or societal standards that will prevent them from doing whatever they want is the height of idiocy.

Imagine... yeah, that's about as far as you want to go, putting that kind of idiocy in place would be the end of Humanity, well maybe not the end, I mean, once we were reduced back to preneolithic technologies we'd have no place to go but up again.
:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

You stump... He's not saying that we need to erase borders and governments. He's saying that it would be nice if humanity could progress to a point where we don't need these things - you know like killing each other over material goods. He's not saying that eliminating borders and governments and money would be the solve all.

Jesus Christ man. get a grip:joint::joint::joint:

Again, Lennon's words are nice ... human nature isn't. One can hope for a better world all one want's to ... but hoping isn't gonna cut it. The only thing that will change the world is to have everyone on the planet existing in the same spiritual plane at the same time. And, that's not very likely.

i figured it all out finally. This is how we are supposed to change our consciousness! Just imagine.

Imagine there's no heaven
it's easy if you try
no hell below us
above us only sky
imagine all the people
living for today

imagine there's no countries - no countries... No borders...
it isn't hard to do
nothing to kill or die for - guess that means everyone's already dead, cause i'll always be willing to kill for my right to continue breathing.
and no religion too
imagine all the people
living life in peace

you may say that i'm a dreamer
but i'm not the only one
i hope someday you'll join us
and the world will be as one

imagine no possessions - no thanks, i like my stuff
i wonder if you can
no need for greed or hunger - horrible economic collapse, no thanks, greed moves the world, with out it, we'd all be dead, or still living in caves, huts, or trees
a brotherhood of man -
imagine all the people
sharing all the world

you may say that i'm a dreamer
but i'm not the only one
i hope someday you'll join us
and the world will live as one
no thanks,

Dude its a fucking song......Jesus christ
That's right ... and its not a way of life as some would make it out to be. Dreams are wonderful, but life goes on. Remember, Lennon was a multi-millionaire living a life of privledge with a brain whacked out on Acid.

Geeze, maybe that's what's wrong with me. I've done acid. Geeze, maybe I'm whacked out. Well it was like 30 years ago, but you know, those crazy flash backs, yeah, I'll just blame it on acid.
