Hydroponics Advanced discussion/ORP-Oxidation Reduction Potential and hydroponics

Wasup good people, im starting this thread to cover any advanced topics that are outside the normal realm of hydro discussion. im curious to whether anyone has any experience with oxidation reduction potential or ORP in hydroponics systems... OR if anyone out there has any info on solution that consists of positively (+ ion) charged molecule or negatively charged molecule (- ION). I recently purchased a product called "Real plant water" which is supposed to raise the ORP to -170 (mv) total. Basically adding an abundance of free electrons (-) to the solution which supposedly allow the aquaporins in the roots to take up more nutrient/water in better balance. The science behind their products is legit as far as i have found, however i have read that a slightly positively charged solution can be more beneficial.

Can't add anything but would be interested in a link to any of the background studies.

Best way to see is to do a side by side test run of the same strain in dwc. You can use the Milwaukee ph58, as it does temp, ph, and ORP readings all in one affordable pen. See if keeping the ORP positive indeed helps the plant outgrow the standard dwc.

We are testing "Real Plant Water" from RealWaterNW dot com looking for that magic that helps control critters, mold and encourages growth without anything bad left behind. First indoor crop was bushy bushy bushy without issues and no lockups with tests being absolutely clean so we are being more aggressive as it was cheap to use. You Got To Love Concentrates:-) We sprayed twice a week right up to harvest and added it to our reservoirs on top of our normal nukes which appeared to run hotter, dialing them back to save more $$$ Real results & lowcost........ Folks....We have a winner!

Wife just pointed out that we bought the product through RealWaterNorthwest dot com and she loves the results. Going to use it outdoors in Northern Oregon to see if it fixes the mold issue for outdoor so far north.

how does it react to pvc with the static electritity in magnetic pumps and also pvc haveing a static charge will it coat the res and the pumps and the lines???? thats a big thing with some dwc and aroe systems...???

Last completed grow I combined flooming (rapid moving nutes through/over various size rocks) with magnets and air stones.

I buy polished ornamental rocks from Dollar store. I use a 320 gph pump to circulate nutes over the stones 24/7

I also use 2 large magnets in repel, both anchored to a large nut through which a 1/2' tube passes the nutes

Last grow I also added 2 4" air stones, and I may again.

Nutes are a complete one part dry formula from Hydroponic Research

Thump Easy, it appears to operate at a molecular level adding negative ions to our RO water according to their website. Proof was in the pudding as we seen 30-50% faster growth and yield was better too! It's worth looking deeper into this orp stuff based on our early results and the reason for the post. We plan to do side by sides and post results here as we play with negative orp of water on our ladies. Appears to knockout nutrient lockup when flushing with negative orp water which is what this research (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10431220) states in so many words. The results are exciting with root aphids and mites in it appears that those critters die on contact with negative orp water. Spraying twice a week seems to be best for keeping them at bay if you have a grow with neighbors that share those unwelcome visitors. We are buying an ORP meter soon to continue further research as it appears to kill molds according to some research http://primechiropractic.com/ionized-alkaline-water.html and http://www.improveeyesightnaturally.ca/articles/pdfs/ExpertsSay.pdf

We are ordering Real Water for ourselves, their water for humans as we have been impressed by all the research. This ORP topic is a very deep rabbit hole to go down and its been fun learning about Aquaporins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaporin) Osmosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osmosis)
