Hydroponic system questions

I started out with the original Advanced Nutrients Sensi Products with good results than tried the Ph Perfect and it killed my plants. So I tried dutchmaster and didnt have too much luck with that but I believe it was because my Ph pen was throwing me off most of the time.

I do use DynaGro now but only certain products. I will upload you a picture of my nutrients and explain why I picked them specifically.

  • The DynaGro Liquid Grow is a pretty even N-P-K feed so I use that all grow around.
  • I use small amounts of Mag-Pro to supply micro-nutrients but also use it later into flower at higher levels for the high boost of P. I know boosting P isnt necessary and I don't over due it like the nutrient companies want you to do lol.
  • I use Pro-Tekt for Silica and I have had the best results with this DynaGro's silica specifically. The neem oil is great stuff is will keep any insects or pests at bay and it is completely organic. It smells nasty and is hard to prepare in a spray for larger applications but it does the job so well.
  • The K-L-N is used strictly for clones and honestly I am not too impressed with it. I have better luck with the powders. I don't use any other root booster by General Hydroponic Rapid Start however I need to look into a cheaper alternative. I will admit the Rapid Start works wonders.
  • Hydroguard from Botanicare is used in my RDWC hydro system because I can't afford a chiller ATM and it does a great job of keeping everything almost flawlessly white with explosive root growth. No "nutrient stain" as some growers will try to use this as an excuse to explain early root rot. I will use h202 for a few days if I see root rot starting or beginning than switch back to hydroguard as my main source of defense. I like the stuff a lot.

this is my first go-round with dyna gro. i used foliage pro in veg and first 2 weeks of 12/12. now i'm using half and half foliage pro and bloom for probably the rest of 12/12 unless i see some issues. maybe switch to just bloom for last 2 weeks (to be determined).

@Vumar: do you just use the DG at 5mL/gallon? i'm in drain to waste and that is recommended dose. my EC is around 0.8 no deficiencies just yet.

I dont wanna sound like an elitist but I have learned to read my plant. I use a "general" ratio of ml/gal but it all depends on what the plant is telling me it needs. If .8 EC and your ratio of NPK/micro nutrients works with no deficiencies than it sounds like the plant is generally happy. So keep doing that until you see another def sign and than you have to adjust your ML/gal on atleast 2-3 nutrients. If you have a cal-mag def than you need to drop your bloom or grow a little in order to spike the cal-mag up a bit, is my point. So each one of my DynaGro nutrients has a range of ML/gal depending on the stage of growth and individual nutrient requirement of the strain. Does this help at all?

you elitist sonofabitch!! haha. lol. i'm good at reading plants too. that's why i like hydro: you can fix a problem fairly quickly if you know what to look for and know how to fix it.

just curious since this was my first try with DG. i'm gonna keep doing what i'm doing unless they tell me differently. thanks!!

I appreciate the tutelage fellas. I have learned alot. I picked up my buckets perlite, and drip trays today. I'll have my new light in by the end of next week. I'll start my seeds germinating as soon as my root riot plugs show up.

excellent! much luck to you. 3 words of advice: pH, pH, pH. you have to have your pH b/t 5.5 and 6.1 in hydro.

Sure thing. Can you recommend a good PH pen? Everyone I have used has been junk. Or is there a better way to check it.

i've had a Milwaukee MW101 for a few years now. no problems at all. after use, rinse probe with white vinegar and then store it in a small cup of RO/distilled water.

I can get the dynamic grow foliage pro 32 ounce for 18 bucks at the local wally world .
That's an amazing price! I have never seen Dyna Grow products availible at the big box stores. Dyna Grow offers a sample pack for free (but you do need to pay for shipping which is about $35). I ordered it and they sent me four quart sizes and small 11oz ones that included Foliage Pro, Grow, Bloom, MagPro, ProTekt, well worth the price. They also sent me a flush product that I never knew they made.

i switched from dwc to rdwc and then to hempys. i have an auto watering system: fill up the res once a week and don't have to touch anything. drain to waste so my EC and pH are constant. super easy.

dwc has awesome growth but you need to keep an eye on it. i can go away for a week and not worry. not many dwc growers can say that.
This is a good idea that I have been considering. Can you share your setup? I was wondering how large of a res tank to make and then how long to pump (on a timer) to cause an overflow in the hempy bucket to replenish the nutes but not cause a flood and mess...

sure. i have part of my rdwc intact (2 27gallon black totes plumbed together and then eventually to a floor drain in my mech room) so no chance of flooding.

each tote can hold 2 5 gal buckets. my res is a 30 gallon trashcan.have 2 airstones and a small water pump to circulate/aerate. i have a bigger water pump with a DiG 6 outlet manifold, 2 not used to feed the buckets. just aquarium tubing.

i've been playing with the timer. was doing once per 24hr. tried 6x per 24hr. a bunch of others. now i'm at 30 seconds per hour and a half. they seem to like it.

that make sense??
