Soil is much easier and forgiving as wyteberrywidow said. Hydro is very complex and a lot of work but will result in possibly larger yields and faster growth. Not always the case though, and in my eyes not worth the stress and complexity of it. If you have a good soil that is properly amended and your growing conditions are optimal you can get similar yields to that of hydro with much less work and money spent.

Have to agree did the Rockwool drip emitter and the ebb and flow and after all the expense and work Soil is the easiest way to grow. If you want to go the AACT tea route you can just about meet the yield and maybe surpass the quality of Hydro. IMHO.

I think it's natural for a grower to show interest in eventually wanting to learn both. With soil, most of your work is upfront with the mixing and the only technical part being maybe when you re-amend the soil for reuse.

With my DWC plants, the work is spread out over the entirety of the grow. Once you get used to knowing how to not over feed/under feed, it's really quite easy with the proper instruments.

I think my hydro yields better and grows faster but my organic soil tastes better.

I never get it when ppl say hydro is expensive, look into making yourself a rdwc system, very easy. Also it is not complicated, just water temps and pH easy. I find hydro very easy and idoit proof but............. I do have friends who mess it up constantly and blame hydro for there downfall when in reality it is them who are Ill prepared, did zero reaserch and could never be bother to keep on top of simple things like water temps.
I guess the only way you will know is if you give it a try pal good luck

I may try it my friend. Time is something I don't have a lot of so building and micromanaging is not something I can fit into my schedule. I guess complicated is the wrong word. Intricate, more involvement, and more time consuming are how I see it. Also I grow for my mothers meds so I don't have room for testing and possibly failure. Soil has done me well and that's where the Lord intended them to grow so I go with soil.
Someday I will try hydro on maybe one or two plants just extras and fiddle with them and se how it works for me. I have never done it so I just go by what I think from what I see about how difficult it is. Who knows, when I try it I may love it and never go back to soil. We'll see.

Check out "hempy" style. It's easy, use way less nutes than hydro so cheaper. Can use the same perlite over and over. Uses no power to run air pump. It's technically not hydro, more like a soil less medium, but easier than soil and hydro and very effective. Very cheap to set up too. Need a bucket. Perlite to fill the bucket. Borrow a drill to make a hole 2" from the bottom. Will need to ph correctly so PH meter $12 on eBay. Nutes, 3 part gh flora works fine. BOOM! Look it up.

Soil easier for beginners and more forgiving.

Hydro will grow faster and yield more but less forgiving with mistakes.
You know, I have to agree with you about dirt, before I got seriously involved with a Waterfarm drip system. Soil is a pain in the ass too. You will get a way bigger plant in hydro, with only topping off the water level with PH'd nutes. Soil, unless cared for religiously will fuck with the PH and create a nute/salt build up at around 2 months. Always I have found that to be true unless you go organic(small plants/pain in the ass also). So, for a rookie that want's as big plant in as little space as possible (don't forget the lights), do your water changes every 2 weeks, and get a Waterfarm to get you into hydro. For a small grow, with due diligence, it will do you right.

I did soil a couple of times and got a power grow. Basically same thing as a water farm maybe a bit larger. I ran it one time. I changed nutes every Sunday. I wouldn't call it a pain in the ass at all, but I went back to hempy because it's so stupid easy. I don't know if it yields the same as dro, but does darned good. Check it out sometime. Would also like to see a side by side with hydro all other factors being the same. Ever been done?

Anyway. Love the power grow water farm too. Very effective.

I use a soiless mix of Coco and Perlite 50/50. then 1/2 natural local compost.. mostly fan leaves, old roots and decomposed stems. Then I plop in a few worms. all they do is eat sleep shit and screw. by the time I'm into bloom, the plants are so high on worm poo, that they don't realize I push them into overdrive with P nutes. so my answer is amended soiless hydro.

I don't use irrigation systems as I very much enjoy being in the room with my growing girls. I also find mixing nutrients and watering by hand very much an exercise in Zen focus. It forces me to stay in sync with the life cycle of the plants and to stay in the stage with them so I can be certain they are doin what I ask.. I'll admit it gets a little tough when they start smelling all tasty. Just wanna maul 'em.

I looked at Hydro system, just seems like an end run around the real process. Kinda like email. oh wait...:???:

I have to say it was opposite here. I jumped into a ebb and flow system and using just one part food veg n bloom was the most simple thing ever.. Hell we left for 19 days and came back to lush green healthy plants with exception of the 2 power outages we had.. Soil is easy too but seems I've had more issues with critters than the hydro but again one persons opinion These grew alongside our diesel plants same nutes same everything. I believe hempy is best for rookies as they can water it three times a day and it won't kill it....and over-nutes can be corrected rather easily , the other major rookie error
