Attempt 1 - 6 site bubbleponics kit, crappy nutrient powder, cheap ph tester no ppm
Fail!

Attempt 2 - 5 gallon dwc Blue Lab Ph and Ppm pens, synthetic liquid nutrients sensi grow and bloom. Rockwool cube dried out. Fail!

Attempt 3- Tried transplanting bigger more established plant with roots directly into hydroton, no rockwool. Plant survived a long time, stayed green, but never got much bigger. Even with nutes upped to 800 or so ppm. Water steady 5.8 to 6.2. Could not get water temp lower than 79. Water bottles a pain and only temp fix for resevoir temps. Fail!

Advice?

why is the temp so high?

Look up Subcool's Supersoil recipe. Get a couple of batches under your belt before you try hydro.

It sounds like you are getting it dialed in, not knowing your set up, I would say it's time to ck the age of your lights, air movement and state of root growth.

Were your roots in the soup or the whole basket? Key point there.How often were you checking your levels (pH etc) and did you have to treat with pH Up or Down? Your reservoir temps need to be cool. Rockwool sucks. Cheap vermiculite, washed and strained through a collander to remove the tiny crap, works just as well as hydroton and is available at Wal Mart. And bottled water is usually unnecessary if it's the chlorine. Chlorine dissipates quickly and shows in your TDS. It's chloramine at that point and inert. You water your outdoor pot with a hose, right?

I hate that stuff too-----Why create potential problems? Makes me cringe every time I hear someone using it----not trying to be an AHole---just my opinion.

My growing method of choice is 100% medium less aero----except for starting seed, then 16 qz cups with vermiculite and 1/4 strength bloom soup (about 200 -300 ppm, .7 conversion).

(running in tubes----so not true aero)

Rockwool is a dream for bacteria and molds. It speeds root rot for those not used to watching for signs of trouble if not treated correctly. Living and growing in Alaska you use what you can get. I have used fish tank gravel and barbeque grill lava. The gravel is easy to rinse with bleach. The lava requires washing to wash off the dust (and there can be a lot) and the smaller bits of lava. But the lava holds water, air and nutes in the microscopic air holes in it and is better in ebb and flood setups.
