HPS vs MH

Im thinking of starting a grow op and I don't know what kind of lights I want to use. I am only going to use one type of light and I was wondering what type is better, MH or HPS? I am only growing a couple of plants so I don't really need a lot of wattage, I just want what will be the best for the plants. I have read a little on growing, but Im new at it so any input would be helpful.

I prefer HPS because it's better in flower and that's where it really counts. Plus MH bulbs get much hotter then HPS bulbs.

I agree if you are only going to choose one type of lamp then go with the HPS as it is better for flowering.

I have completed my first grow about 2 weeks ago and i only used 2 lights when i was growing.

24w 6400K t5 for propagation and the first week of veg
600w HPS for 3 more weeks of veg and 10weeks of flowering.

I strongly recommend CFL if it's for personal use. I've done both, i.e. HPS/MH and CFL, and there's something about CFL that connects to your plant. Hard to explain until your experience it.

CFL for Veg. HPS for flower...I really think CFL is better than MH for vegging. IT makes nice lush growth and TIGHT inter-nodal spacing

Yeh, if you only want one type of light then go with the HPS, you would ned a heck of a lot of CFLs just for a few plants. Also, since you won't be alternating between MH and HPS, i suggest a HPS with an enhanced blue spectrum. These bulbs have just an extra bit of blue in that will help if you veg wiht the HPS, will help you address the stretching issue.

I find the exact opposite is true
I've used both a 250 MH bulb and 250w HPS bulb with my first grow cab and noticed with the MH bulb the temp. was a couple degrees hotter then the HPS bulb.. not much but enough to make a difference. I'm kind of confused about why you would say that an MH bulb is better in flower but to each his own I guess.

Oh yeah, HPS bulbs have more lumens then MH as well.

Does anyone know anything about lcd lights. I was thinking about buying a UFO. Are lcds better than HPS or should I just use a HPS?
Jury is still out on the LED's, but there are some people on this forum which use them, you should check out their grow journals.

I use a 400 watt and am growing 3 plants under it now, I have done 4 & 6 plants, but they take up a lot of space. But I also have a 315 watt (actual wattage) Multi-Spectrum array of CFL's under which I am growing 1 Super O.G.

I have a small veg box which I run CFL's (2 X 26 watts) & Flouros (2 X 20 watts). It is one of those footlocker boxes, in-and-out PC fans. I take clones and put them under a Humidity dome with 2 CFL's. When the roots break trough I put them 16 oz pots in this box. I keep them there until I free up my Flower Box. Then I swap in the Metal Halide. Wait a couple of weeks and then switch to 12/12 and HPS.

About 2-3 oz on a nice plant. bongsmilie
