HPS vs CFL

Can i grow straight from seedling stage to harvest using a
150w HPS light?

ill also be using multiple CFLs that i had left over from the beginning.

also.
if i use a 150w HPS and 2, 27w CFL lights how long will it take to get through
vegetation and into the final stage?

(this is my first indoor grow):weed:

yes. veg for however you want, flowering can take anywhere from 8-16 weeks depending on strain

When the seedlings are young, keep the light a good distance, like more than 3 ft away. I only have exp with a 400w MH so you're going to have to figure out a good distance since you'll have less heat.

alright yeah i know what you mean and i have a pretty good idea on
light placement with the HPS bulb.

im planning on keeping it around 3 feet from the plant granted im using a
good quality air intake and exhaust system..

thanks for the tip. do you use you MH for every grow cycle? the whole way?

i would say w/ 2 27watt cfl's & a 150 watt HPS you could just about do a very small 2 stage area. you could use the 2 cfl's for seedings (if you have access to clones that would be Sooo much better) & use the 150 HPS for flowering. you could raise 4 clones to about 12" tall & then throw them into a 2' x 2' room w/ the 150 watt hps. then you just wanna know how long it takes you to get your plants to size to put in the 150 watt HPS flower chamber & get more clones started so that they are ready to be moved over to HPS when the ones currently there have been in about 8-10 weeks. then you can harvest every 8-10 weeks. 4 plants, assuming you've used clones so they are all female should produce you @ least 2 ounces every harvest. & maybe as much as 6 ounces. I would consider adding a little more to the flourescent (grow/veg) chamber though. maybe 1 or 2 more of those cfl's

I had a ballast burn out so I'm vegging under 48" fluorescents and moving them into the flower rm (1000W HPS) for 9-10 hrs a day. They look great at age 5 wks. ( Hempy buckets, all perlite)

i have a 1000w hps right now too but i cant use it cause i dont have a ballast thats
compatible for its use.. annoying.

will the 2 CFLs be sufficient enough to get the seedlings into a vegetation stahe

150w hps will grow some fine little plants from start to finish, the two cfl's will barely add anything but can't hurt. What they will do that's nice is control the extra stretch you can get vegging and flowering with just hps if you choose 6500k cfl's.

I sure wouldn't want to have a 150 3 feet away, ever. My 250 halide I run 12" away max for seedlings or whatever and 4" away min after the plants are stronger. There won't be enough light at 3' away and then it would just be a waste to run it at all.

Use the cfl's as sidelight, give the hps center placement and don't block hps light from the plants with the cfl's in the way.

You can grow as fast with that as anything else, given you only cover about 2-3 sq feet of floorspace max. A month veg would be plenty in most cases, if you don't screw up and overfertilize or something.
